Rocky Trail GP Round 4 - Stromlo

The Rocky Trail crew organised another slick event. This was the last of the 4 round series. Their events are always a relaxed affair and family friendly. I'm a real fan of the mt Stromlo trails but absolutely hate racing there. I hate the endless climbing without any chance of getting a rhythm going and then the rutted descents that jar your body. There's not a single corner out there where you can't stack.

My Fling

After a Winter of constant colds in our house thanks to the ankle biters I finally managed a 4 week uninterrupted lead up to the Fling. All was good until the day before when I took the bike for a shakedown run before we left for the southern Highlands only to find a piston in my rear calliper wasn't retracting. Hardly surprising with all the wet weather training I've done lately but definitely not ideal so close to the race. After a trawl through the garage panic set in when I realised I didn't have a spare handy.

Worst conditions ever!!

I had a bad preparation for the event as my back was still stuffed after the Dirtworks so I did only a couple of easy road rides between events. I put a new cassette on my spare wheels so also put a new chain on the bike and did a quick road ride a few days before the event in the rain with my race wheels. All seemed good so took the family to Canberra on Friday night knowing we were in for a wet one.

Another great event from the Maximum Adventure crew. How great was it to arrive at sparrows fart to warm weather?
