Quarry Road Track Closure?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

A couple of years ago, I posted an article in regards to the apparent imminent closure of the famed Quarry Road Track linking Hornsby with Dural due to the danger of the nearby rifle range.

Getting muddy with curly wurly bars

*Real* CX where it doesn't matter and nobody cares if it turns into a mudfest. This could be worth keeping an eye on.

Manly Dam -Hazard Reduction Burn this weekend

two burns this weekend, one of the Allambie side of the trail near Southern Cross Way this Sunday and another tomorrow on the North Balgowlah side at Warringah St near the Nth Balgowlah School. not much by way of additional detail on the RFS site
(there's a burn happening right now (7:30pm Friday) and looks to be somewhere around Forrestville/Davidson judging by the amount of smoke I can see)....

Very Disturbing

Read in today's Manly Daily, in regards to a young fella enjoying his ride home on the Lagoon Trail at Narrabeen Lakes at around 7.30pm.
The Cyclist was Threatened and also hit with a Pole of some sorts.
The attacker has been said to be wearing a Scream Movie Mask, maybe something to keep an eye out when traveling around that area.

Mountain Biking Park and Gondola in Wollongong

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All,

The Wollongong City Council has commissioned TRC Tourism to work with the community to develop a vision for Mt Keira Summit Park.

There has been talk in the media of a mountain bike park with gondola rides.

Yes ladies and gents...we could very possibly have our very own Rotorua built within an hours drive from Sydney! Sure it will take a few years, but imagine how good it could be.

There are two upcoming meetings happening on Tuesday 8 March and Thursday 31 March, for those that are interested in attending and being involved you can register your interest here:

I'm not in prison!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Well, it's the first of March, and despite being on the bike for 45 minutes, I didn't get pulled over to be checked for ID, or put in handcuffs for not having a bell on my bike. However, I was passed at close range by an impatient driver, and nor was he immediately taken to court.

The bell tolls.

Here it comes - looks like I better get a bell for my mountain bike for when I am riding to a track. Taking this to the extreme, this could mean you will need a bell when riding on fire trails. I can see it now - 'bell inspection' officers at the bottom of The Oaks.

Clean up Australia Day - Single track on Mona Vale Rd

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Clean-up Australia is just around the corner – Sunday 6th March and as part of “Clean-up” the mountain biking community is doing its bit by fixing up our tracks.

The section of track between the Kuringai Community Nursery and Showgrounds is looking like a tip at the moment and would really benefit from a little love - cleaning up the litter and making it a lot more pleasant to ride.

New to Conder

I've recently moved to Conder, spending my first full week in my new place since purchasing it at the end of Jan. Just wondering if there are any local riders on here interested in catching up for a ride sometime?

Dropper Post for XC Racing?

I'm just wondering what people closer to the sharp end of the field think about using a dropper post for XC racing.

Worth the 200g? Would it help my lap times (assuming I'm doing my best to improve the engine performance as well)?

Cheers!

MORE Rotorua videos .. yep More!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This was my 4th trip in 2 years to Rotorua but the first time I'd been with anyone else .. well except my bikes.

TBH I was a bit nervous because the crew I was going with were a step up for me. Turns out I held my own .. on the downhills. But hey this is Rotorua .. why don't waste time and energy riding UP, there's plenty of UP you can do here without the airfares, car hire and house rental.

Press Fit Bottom Brackets

How bad is that plastic thing Shimano call a bottom bracket?
Yes they are cheap, is that because they need to be replaced every 6-8 months?
Never had these problems with outboard bottom brackets, just clean and forget, last forever.
Time to replace again, just interested in what other people are using as alternates?
Anyone using a Wheels Manufacturing alloy bottom brackets? Looks good, alloy body and a choice of different type of endure bearings, depending on what you want to spend.
Cheers

LOST - Specialized flat pedal (just one) - Manly Dam - FOUND - Please delete.

Lost by a mate today who had a mechanical and the pedal fell off the bike while he was walking out of the trail somewhere in Manly Dam old loop.

Lost Topeak Alien Bike tool

Hi Guys

Looks like my Topeak Alien bike tool has fallen off my bike!
Most likely on Manly Dam trail - I suspect on the fast downhill sections on the Alambie Road side.
Less likely Gahnia trail.

It is in it's black canvas case - reckon the belt loop snapped...

I'd be most grateful if anyone finds it, to get back to me.
More sentimental value than anything else..it's saved me a few long walks home...

Cheers

New wheel size standard announced

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Looks like someone is looking to take the rough-ground rolling advantages of bigger wheels to the next level. A '39er' wheel standard has just been proposed.

This image illustrates the difference to a 'standard' 29er:

Steering uses a gears and apparently steering response speed can be tuned by adjusting the gear ratios:

I've broken the inner plate on a Shimano SLX M675 10 Spd Shadow + GS (Medium cage) derailleur. Anybody know where I could get a spare? I can't seem to find one anywhere this side of the equator!

Bago Bluff Marathon

Hi all,

I've heard that there's this 50/100km marathon up near Port Mac on March 6th, and was thinking it looks like a good alternative to the executed Capital Punishment that was a similar distance/time of year.

http://www.trailterra.com.au/bago-bluff-mtb-mara...

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the tracks/race and anyone had been considering having a go at competing in it as I'm keen to know who'd be around if I made the trip up.

Rain Jacket

I need to buy a new rain jacket. Have had a Ground Effect Stormtrooper for a good 13 years but it's now disheveled and in need of a grave. The new ones look expensive. I don't mind cost if I get good durability. Use primarily for wet commutes but also for mountain biking as well just needs to keep me dry as long as possible. Any thoughts.

Manly Dam this Sunday 21 Feb

Just a heads up the trail running series is back this Sunday and I think this includes running on the Wakehurst PWY single track.
