Emergency Trail Riding Pack

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey. I was just wondering what you would recommend to have with you at all times while trail riding?
I currently only have puncture repair kit with a few levers & pump which are on my bike at all times. I also have a 2watt CB radio which could come in handy in limited reception areas in case of emergency. As well as a medium size first aid kit (which unfortunately, I usually forget to bring as it's usually in my work bag).

What else should I be bringing with me?
Keep in mind I would be riding straight to trails from my house or transport via train and such.

New to riding

Hey guys.
I have been into the mountain biking scene as long as I can remember but only as of late got myself a hardtail that I'm happy with (not rich enough for a DH Sticking out tongue).
I live in Blaxland and of the past few weeks have been riding around the local area trying to find trails. I have found a few that look like they don't get regular use, & the use they get is from bushwalkers.

Decline in Races - Why is this happening?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Many will have seen a recent announcement that the Highland Fling maybe following the demise of so many other races with even the Mont and the Kowalski coming to an end this year. I'd be interested in what people think as to why these things are happening. Is it:
1. These races are run for profit and not volunteers and therefore are prone to declines in sponsorship?
2. That people are changing habits and want to do more downhill when these races are marathon by nature?
3. That we're not promoting the sport enough?
4. That the races were just not that enjoyable?

Kiddie Friendly Tracks Around Orange

G'day All

Heading up to Orange with the family these school hols and was after some local advice on what tracks might be kiddie friendly (5-8yrs).

I am guessing there might be some more suitable options at Lake Canobolas rather than Kinross, but would welcome any pointers.

New MTB'er - Suggestions for good off road rides in the Hills District?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi - I'm recently back in to riding (used to go a lot in the UK in my 20s and just brought a MTB - but now in my 40s!)
Looking for some interesting rides around the Hills District... Seen some on the Hills Shire website, but nothing too exciting...
Does anyone have any suggestions for anything within a 15-20km radius of Castle Hill?
Thanks
Mark

Looking for trails

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey guys, Im new to Mountain biking and im looking for a trail around Sydney. Preferably within Sydney/Blue mountains but im willing to travel.

I'm fairly confident on a bike and had a fair bit of experience with dirt jumps. Was wondering if anyone could recommend a downhill/trail that has a fair bit of jumps but not something you'd give a complete beginner.

Thanks for your help and im keen to hit the trails!!!

Mid Pack Warrior Report - Port to Port 2017

Mid Pack Warrior Report - Port to Port 2017

After recent trips to Derby and The Mont plus the football season I was happily putting my competitive riding, (I use this term in it’s loosest sense with a very small ‘c’) to bed and settling down into my winter training schedule of a couple of half hearted laps round the dam when I got an email from NOBMOB telling me I’d won an entry to the Port To Port. To be honest I’m not sure I replied with the level of excitement it deserved.

So belated thanks to NOBMOB for running the competition.

For anyone who thought about P2P but did not do it - here is a first hand account of it.

On paper it is four days with no day being particularly long so it looks like pretty simple but it was a bit harder than what I thought. All locations are quite scenic and offer more than mountain biking for the support crew to enjoy. Anyone who made the mistake of inviting a spouse to e.g Scott 24hr may have a little convincing to do but it is an enjoyable event for support crew as well as riders.

Hornsby Park (OMV) Update

****This will be up on Saturday 20th as well****

Hornsby Mall has a community feedback on the recent submissions regarding the Hornsby Park area. Won't say much as I'll let the photos of the signs speak for themselves.

Port to Port Stage 4

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I jut rode the new single track that is in stage four of Port to Port.
It was easy enough to follow from the Greyhound training area, but didn't see where it went once I got to oakdale rd.
I went straight ahead and rode through some existing single track that was used in the 2015 event.
I then found it again on the west side of the fernleigh track... until I lost it again at an unmarked t intersection.

Has anyone ridden the full track and want to provide a Garmin track/gps track, please.
The track they provide on their website isn't exactly a quality image

Cheers

Quarry Road Track Closure due to Rifle Range “Danger”

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We’re paging mountain bikers, walkers and joggers from Hornsby and beyond to help us in our charge to find a more workable solution than the present Trump-like “answer” of gates, walls and fences to lock everyone out of the extremely popular Quarry Road Track from Hornsby to Dural. The transcript of the letter/report that I have personally sent is shown below for reference; it’s rather long but the Abstract is a pretty good summary of the situation for those who have been out of the loop.

Titanium 135x10 bolt thru skewer???

Does anyone know if there's a titanium 10mm bolt thru skewer available?

Building up a set of wheels for the carbon hardtail and want to beef up the rear over the standard QR.

I'll probably go with a 10mm bolt on but am wondering if there's a Ti option for these because, well...as the kids say...because titanium. Laughing out loud

New fire trail off Cowan trail?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I noticed today on Cowan trail it appears there is a new fire trail branching off to the west about two thirds of the way along.

Looks like it has been recently cut in, along with a few "layover" areas on the existing Cowan trail. The ground is still covered in grassy vegetation, but I didn't see any other evidence of vegetation removal such as tree stumps and the like.

i didn't explore the full length as I was with other riders, but I saw pink ribbon markers going a little way further ahead.

Does anyone know anything about this new trail section?

Lost helmet & gloves at Manly dam

Hi. I left my helmet and gloves near the log in the car park in front of the school at the trail head for Manly dam. If you've spotted them, could you please let me know? It was a black / charcoal lazer helmet, and a pair of fingerless specialized gloves.

Many thanks.

Padding recommendation

Had a fairly major crash six weeks ago that resulted in a broken elbow. Still some time till full recovery but want to make sure I have some good elbow and knee pads for when I can ride again. I focus on endurance rides so really looking for something comfortable and not bulky. Any recommendations? Thanks
