Duration:
2 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
I'll be there, no matter what the weather.
Ride Database Entry:
Menai (Lucas Heights)
Meeting Point:

By the sports field on Old Illawarra Road, Barden Ridge.

-34.037591,151.006672 (Old Illawarra Rd)
Details:

Menai.. at night.. A bit technical in places, a few pinch climbs here and there and some good flowing sniggle.

Not the ride for a beginner as it can be tricky in places, good lights will be needed and body armour is /optional/ advised.

Best thing, we ride at the pace of our last rider so this is a great way to stay together, see the animals out and about and most importantly not be worried about if this group is going to disappear into the distance. We're out to enjoy the "special effects" that night riding is all about.

See you there. Pm me if your still not to sure.. don't die wondering...

Hi Chris,
From looking at the pics of Menai everyone seems to be wearing body armour. Is this a good option? Is it particularly rocky?

chris02's picture

No it's not really a must have.. ... I don't wear it and a few others don't - its about 50/50... without it you just think twice at some of the really tech bits.. But if you have it why not wear it I suppose is the answer.

There are so many options on the ride, and the type of terrain, on the night rides we stick to stuff that is safe and ridable, the rocks are OK if you have some form of decent suspension. The best way to find out is to come along and try it out.. I find a spot to walk every night, instead of damage control "after" the event.

... but i dont have lights Sad i have been to Menai many times but never at night, actually i have never ridden at night before...
Regarding body armor, i have knee/sheen pads and elbow pads and i wear them always, even when it is really hot and riding just fire trails, i guess I prefer to prevent rather than regret... besides there is a point that you just get used to the protection as you are used to the helmet...

love em, the amount of times i eat it you got to have them, it makes the difference of hopefully getting back on the steed in 1 piece,(even if the pads dont!!!) last week in point.
looking forward to some more sweet ridin, just maybe not so epic

As per last week , a tentative yes due to work commitments , and wet weather with the fact that my drivetrain is hanging on to life by its fingernails . I need some sanity to come back in and get out there again , no pads though i will just walk the scarey bits again .......
