Bike rage - hawkeye hit by car
Hi guys. Just letting you know I'm off the bike for at least 6 weeks after being deliberately sideswiped in a hit and run on Warringah Rd nr Forest Way westbound @ ~6:50am Monday. Just got back from RNSH this morning, and am sporting a Ti plate and screws in my hand and have major road rash on my elbow, shoulder and hip.
The good news is he was caught by an off-duty copper who witnessed the whole thing. I haven't yet caught up with the Police as the ambos whisked me off to the trauma unit.
Just be careful, guys. They're out there.

that is shocking news re you getting hit but good news that the jerk was caught. hope you have a quick recovery and the jerk gets the max he can get sentenced/fined.
Any chance that when you're better, you might be allowed 5 mins alone with the offender to "explain through a form of interpretive dance" how upset you were at being whallopped?

How did you know its deliberate and simply someone doing the usual - you know - not concentrating ( men is SAABS, Avalons), texting ( P plate girls, Ford Fiestas, ASTRA) or just plain stupid? ( Taxi Drivers, Bus drivers, Hi ace Drivers)
Driving in OZ is a 3rd world experience - my favourite is when you toot at someone doing something incredibly dangerous and then they go ape sh**t
Hopefully justice will be served
Hopefully you can sue the guy for enough to make him sorry and make you feel you got something at least in return.

If it was deliberate that is really fu**ed. I'm just so glad the whole incident was witnessed and the bastard was caught....It's hard to try and grab a number plate as you're fighting for your life.

you are all such a nice bunch of guys and it's very disturbing to hear such things ... i know it can't always work out and kinda cramps your style but might i suggest especially during the silly season each of you post as many rides as you can and ride in groups as often as possible ... it might not be much but i know you'd all look out for each other ... dammed awful to hear ... best wishes on your recovery ...
please be careful out there and remember chances are about 50% of the people on the road have an IQ significantly less than yours i.e. someone has to be less than average and my experience suggests there are a lot of people out there that have some chip on their shoulder about one thing or another, either inherited or beaten into them and the same aren't prevented in any way from driving cars, drinking or having children ...
OK. Both bar ends are toast, panniers are toast, jersey is full of holes, helmet is toast. Phone is scuffed, so is the saddle. The phone saved some of my skin.
Some paint scratches, but nothing through to metal. Pedals are also scratched.
The right bar end has turquoise paint transfer on it. Physical evidence.
I know it was intentional because he didn't just clip me, he got real close as he passed and lined me up. My bar end hit his rear passenger side door somewhere near halfway along.
I yelled really loud in startled warning just as he hit me, and the force of the impact would have been very audible. There is no way he would not have heard. Yet took off.
I'm pretty disgusted.
thats such a terrible thing to happen ,so close to christmas & after you have been off the bike for a while too,hope the bastard gets his just deserts & you heal quickly.

Panniers don't look too bad, but they've been holed so are no longer waterproof. They saved the rest of the bike from serious damage I reckon. Derailleur and frame could easily have been written off.
I could have been written off. When I finally came to a stop on my back there was a woman in a Prius with a very shocked face, waiting.

a. Police will do to this guy? Is it attempted manslaughter to intentionally try to hit someone??

I think a few letters to Magda, Miranda etc might be in order as I sadly think it was only a matter of time before the recent anti cycle articles led to some boofhead acting out their fantasies for them. I think you should sue them for incitement to assault.

is beyond reasonable doubt in crimimal cases ... difficult to establish. We would need a lot of witnesses I don't have right now. depends on what he said when the off-duty cop when he was pulled up.

@CB: left shoulder was sore from being tumbled about as I rolled to a stop, but major impact was to right hand and elbow. Main drama is that rehab program that was progressing so well comes to a halt for two weeks while wounds heal. Can't really do any weights or pushups for another few weeks after that.
Good idea abut the letter writing. I'll hunt down their agent details tomorrow.
Post up the license plate and vehicle details so that other can beware of him/her. I know plenty of people who ride down that rode who might like to know such info.
you poor poor thing - and after all that time off the bike - and not to even get injured on a mtb!
what a total complete arsehole - I really hope he gets charged.
Maybe if you need witnesses you could ask the Manly Daily to write something?

The main thing is that you are all right though, lets hope he gets what he deserves.
