MX Rider at Oxford Falls 09/01/2010

Just got a call from Blondie telling me that as she was driving to work this morning she passed a bloke who had unloaded an unregistered moto off his ute and was preparing to ride. This was at the bottom of the Oxford Falls DH runs.
there is absolutely NOWHERE to legally ride a moto there, let alone an unregistered moto.

I am posting here as I am not sure what actually should be done...

It's not NP as far as I know?? and the fuzz seem not to act on this quickly enough...

But now you know. Imagine flying down the DH run at OF only to be met by a bloke illegally riding mx in the opposite direction?

that would keep him around for a while.

"Imagine flying down the DH run at OF only to be met by a bloke illegally riding mx in the opposite direction?"

Unfortunately that is an all to common occurrence..... has been quite a few motos in there of late and the damge being done to trail features is of constant concern to those who maintain them.

Should be easy to avoid if you can see into the future! Sticking out tongue

@ BT

Oops... you know what I mean!

But do you have a constructive idea on how to report/stop it? I'm stumped

give em a ring and talk, they'd at least point you further

Without confronting them head on, it’s pretty hard. The police/rangers aren’t going to stake out the place and it’ll be hard for them to be caught red handed.

I guess if everyone who saw them told them how bad it is and that it’s affecting the MTB trails then they may eventually get the message...Wishful thinking though.

Rang the council rangers who informed me it is a police matter and they can't do anything. I was given the number for both Frenchs Forest Police (94529599) and Dee Why Police (99713399).
I rang FF Police and since it is now 4 hours since the event all I could do was report it. I will however keep the local police numbers in my mobile to ring on the spot in the future. Maybe we all should?

Might have been worth taking the ute's rego??

Scottboy's picture

but ride everywhere else the best thing to do is let two tyres down , then let the police know that way he can't escape them & they can find out where he lives with the rego number on a ute with two flat tyres LOL

Let the tyres down? best thing to do?? if nothing its a good way to start a mtb/moto war.

How about just taking the time to pull up and nicely tell him that its probably not the best idea to be ridding an unregistered bike uphill in a place that's known to be a favorite for MTB downhill and that if he (assuming its a he) actually hits someone while illegally riding that bike then he's more than likely to be completely screwed financially?

I come across unregistered Moto guys all the time up Red Hill, give them a wave and a nod and then make a note to take care that I don't meet them coming up the other way on one of the sweet single tracks, hell once I nearly ran head first into a P plate driver in a Toyota Hilux up there?? not to mention the countless wallabies, brown/black snakes and big ass goanna's!! WTF are they doing there? once I even saw a chick on a horse.. imagine that! outrageous!!

How do I let the tyres down on a horse, that will learn them eh?

Let the guy know that as he's riding an unregistered bike he's un-insured. Let him know that if anything happens to him, or anyone else as a result of his actions he will be liable. Him alone - not an insurance company. Explain how expensive medical bills are (although he should already know that). Explain how bankruptcy works and how one small mistake could change his life forever.

While doing this take a picture of his car showing the plates 'for your records', politely excuse yourself and ride off.

and i am not letting air out of tyres! I have seen him before as he came out of there a few weeks ago with his bike on the ute and drove in front of me. I can't imagine he would be nice if I spoke to him so guess I will get the numberplate next time - thing is, he was filling the bike up with petrol in the carpark thing from a bloody plastic container - clearly an idiot...maybe I could suggest Red Hill to him... oooooh I can feel you all bristle at THAT suggestion.

My opinion would have been to stop the bloke and advise the type of riding he may encounter whilst riding up the trail. If he stays on the rough and rocky technical trails, there should not be too much bother, as riders are very slow and sure along those sections. But if he traipses out into the DH trail, there could be a major accident. And the nufty wouldn't even hear riders coming down the trail. Best bet, haul him up and have a word.
