Re: This ride meeting:
JetBlack twenty four hours Sydney 2010

A few of my thoughts on the Sydney 24 race this weekend.

I turned up to the venue with the family in tow on the friday afternoon. By midnight, with the rain essentially torrential (at least thats how it sounded on the walls of my tent) it was pretty clear that the event would be wet. Wet tracks, mean one thing, the mud tyres come out. That alone for me made this race a success, I live my mud tyres.

We were actually leading the mixed 6's at 5pm on the Saturday night, then my team went soft around me. By the course closure at 8pm we were down to 5th and for the rest of the event no one wanted to ride. I gave up riding myself at 10am and we took the wet family home. We were intending to stay sunday night as well and drink.

Despite the rain, I had a ball. I will be back next year, surely there can't be three wet events in a row. Martin made the only sane call on saturday night and he looked pretty stressed making it. I think he did the right thing and I hope no one complains about his choice. The trail was pretty bad by then.

The reroute in the morning was fun, but the slop made it very hard going on the bike and body. The steep DH was awesome fun though. A bit more single trail would be nice, but the road up the hill did make the climb a lot less painful. Actually, that was my only gripe about the event, the amount of single trail. I'm sure with time though this will be sorted.

All up, great event wrecked by the weather. Wrecked is probably too strong a word as I did have a great time, the event could have been a lot better without the water though. I just hope for martin that doesn't keep people away next year.

A few pics coming later.

question for people who rode, did you have any trouble with three pissed guys? I had them jump out on me through the nightrider gully and then I got a three moon salute just after the top of the climb.

Yes I encountered the drunks as I headed down into the grass paddock area. They were walking up the hill when I passed them.

Harmless but annoying.

I was up there around 5.00pm as some of you might have noticed me I was marshalling/volunteering around the river side of the course all weekend & headed up that way cause a rider mention them moving signs around up from there house . Then I was there for a bit when a couple were down trying to get a few of the kangaroos to move off the oval then they headed over to where the single track came out onto the concrete roadway just before the climb up to there house . While I was there one of the clowns put a golf ball in one of the ditches/puddles before you get on the road , they took it out with a bit of a look & chat with me eventually then not long after or maybe 1 hour they grabbed a female rider on the a## or bottom while another grabbed the bike & another rider got advances towards her.

We were made aware of those guys and I went over and had a few strong words with them - afterwards I didn't hear any complaints about them anymore. Sometimes it's good being a big guy Smiling
