Getting to know you....

Hi,
Have been checking out the forum for a couple of weeks and finally got around to joining. I have some basic questions if someone wouldn't mind posting some answers. There seem to be a handful of you who know each other quite well and ride together regularly...wondering if beginners are welcome to the rides....or do we just slow you down too much and frustrate the hell out of everyone?

I've been riding Xcountry for about a year but my skills are quite minimal..and I'm recovering from a back injury (white-water kayaking, not biking) so have to take things a little easy. I ride a Kona King Kikapu - so have a decent bike and all the accessories. I've ridden Ourimbah a few times and Majura in Canberra, have only been to Manly Dam once and found there were quite a few bits I had to walk, ditto in Oxford Falls. I'd like to meet some new people to ride with and gain some more skill/nerve. I have heard about cyclinics at St Ives but didn't get a response from my email to them yet. I've also posted a bit on Farkin but seem to be attracting 20-something boys....I'm in my 30s and have noticed it's a little difficult to keep up with a 20 year old boy these days!

Anyway, would like to find out more about how many members you have and how regularly you get beginners coming out, how patient is everyone else, etc. I'm a willing shuttle driver too which may go a ways towards some assistance and patience at times Eye-wink.

Keep posting here and you will be attracting 30 something boys! Laughing out loud

Seriously, all comers are welcome on rides. And from my experience with riding with this group, all riders are well catered for and no-one is left behind. I am sure others will shortly confirm this. After all, we are all out for a fun ride. The more the merrier.

When I took up more serious MTB riding a couple of years ago (erm, well, I am no pro Eye-wink that's for sure), my first serious bike ride was at the Oaks. 30km up uphill, downhill torture. Or so I thought. I walked up most of the hills, which was useful in that it highlighted that I needed more fitness. And an ego hit. You will get used to it, no worries. Smiling

Whenever there is a ride posted here that you want to get in on, just post to inform people you are going too, just in case you end up running late. Otherwise, see you out there! Or just post your own if you are itching for a specific ride. We mostly seem to like weekend mornings. Although some of the crazies recently have taken a liking to very early mornings.

There are heaps of great rides to do, and not all of them have rocky, downhill technical bits. Terrey Hills and The Oaks come to mind.

Ciao - LD.

Hello Tanya,
I have only been riding for about seven months - literally...I didnt grow up with a bike and found NobMob fantastic!
Everyone is really friendly and they all wait for the slow people and I should know, I usually come last!
I have yet to get around Manly Dam without walking some parts but find lots of other people get off too.
Just say when you want to go for a ride and we will all come out too!

MEEEE Smiling

Hi Tanya,

just have a look on the webpage and come along to whatever ride works for you timewise (e.g. evening ride tomorrow). Everybody is always happy to wait and help. I just started riding 4 months ago and no worries at all!
Also if you are not sure where to go or where to meet just ask for directions (has saved me a couple of times so far -especially with all these Red Hills everywhere:-) thanks Rob and Liam Smiling!!

See you around,
Carolin

for all the friendly and encouraging responses, I'll get my act together over the next week or two to make it out for a ride.
