[Mod. in our calendar: Public meeting with NPA]

THE FUTURE of mountain biking at Narrabeen Lagoon will be debated at a public forum on Monday, February 22.

Hosted by the Friends of Narrabeen Lagoon Catchment, the forum follows the recent banning of bike riding from single-track sections of Manly Dam, the last legal ones of their kind in Sydney.

Narrabeen Lagoon catchment supports an immense biodiversity including one third of Sydney’s bird species and is a habitat, refuge and nursery for diverse fauna.

The forum will help answer the question: Is this an appropriate place for mountain bike riders? What do you say?

Speaking at the event will be David Yonge, from the Manly Warringah Mountain Bike club and environmentalist Ken Higgs, as well as Manly State Liberal MP Mike Baird, who will talk about biking in national parks.

Also at the forum will be a discussion on the dredging of Narrabeen Lagoon.

Tony Carr, from Friends of Narrabeen Lagoon Catchment, said such was the interest in the forum that organisers had booked a second room at the Narrabeen Tramshed.

* The forum starts at 7pm. Bookings not essential, but to ensure a seat for the event call 0414 735 350 or email [email protected].

It's not a complicated trail, but its a good fun ride for beginners. I take my fiancee riding around here as she is only new to cycling.

Missus needs the car for kid-ferrying duties - don't want to purloin it too many nights in a row.

There is a management strategy issued in 2006. Its the only info i can find.
Buggered if I can work out which lots are designated environmental protection and which ones are not.... http://www.npansw.org.au/web/conservation/Sydney...

If we can determine which Crown Land lots are administered by council and which are not - those that are not shouldnt be a risk.
Council wont be able to stick their pretty "mountain bikes are banned" posters on land not administered by them.

Will be interesting, if we fail with all our prefessional advocacy, to see how they will possibly police a ban in this rugged and rather inaccessible area..

Close the dam and red hill and the troops will either become illegal warriors or move on and create more trails elsewhere.

Reality is that prohibition serves to spur on the prohibited.
If only the Bureaucrats and nay sayers would have just a snippet of attachment to reality.

when the council were contacted by the residents at Red Hill to stop the trail bikes they were told to go to the land and environment people .... who knows, seems they change the rules and lines to suit

Don't forget tonight is the NPA meeting to discuss mountain biking in our parks.

Perhaps it would be ideal to wear something which identifies you as a rider.
