Fill the Gallery: Send Warringah Council a Message Tuesday Night 23 February!

UPDATE: 10:54AM 23/2

The Manly Daily has requested to be able to send a photographer between 6:00 and 6:30 to the session tonite. This needs a Council resolution.

It is rare for TMD to pay overtime, so this is a BIG DEAL. We need to PACK that gallery. See below for details.
-----------------------------

The mayor has flip-flopped again on mtb access to Manly Dam singletrack. We need to encourage him to develop some backbone when it matters most.

We hear that Council staff have begun polling other councils for instances where signs have failed to protect against liability claims, in a bid to scare councillors away from permitting mtb access to singletrack.

It is therefore VITAL that we have a significant physical presence in the room on Tuesday night to send a message that we are interested and emotionally involved in this issue. Even if we don't get to speak, we can make our feelings known with body language and - ahem - other non-physical means. It appears this is the only way we can get this mayor's attention properly focussed.

The email response has been terrific. We now need you to go one step further and come in person.

Meeting details:
Warringah Council Chambers Entrance
Civic Parade
Dee Why NSW 2099
Time: 6pm sharp
Date: Tuesday 23 February 2010
End: Approx 10pm at latest, hopefully much earlier.

See you there.

Our attendance to this extraordinary Warringah Council meeting is, in many ways, more critical than tonight’s meeting with the friends of Narrabeen Lagoon.

Details of that meeting will be posted elsewhere, so sign in and turn up.

It was made very clear to us this evening that another large turnout is required tomorrow ( or is it today already ?) to help keep focus on the issue.

Excellent turnout this evening !

See you there

Hi all,

As already mentioned, MTB PRESENCE IS REQUIRED.
It seems that the decision to reopen the Dam will be influenced by the show of support by MTB-ers at this council meeting tonight (23/02/10). For further details, please see http://nobmob.com/node/13111

See you there...
Cool

Hi, ok based on the double mayor backflip I will attend and hopefully bring some fellow rider(s)

Logan's picture

Dont finish work till gone 6pm this evening, sorry guys.

Someone post up tonight and let us know how it went, I am there in spirit at least.

Thanks

LadyToast's picture

I too won't be able to get there until at least 7 due to work. Do you think I will still get in if I turn up late?

Fatboy's picture

Same. Does anyone know if we can still rock up at say 7:30?

hawkeye's picture

... We realise that 6pm is hard for a lot of folks, and that many of you have end-of-shift times and commute times that will make hitting 6pm sharp difficult.

Nevertheless, please still come - as close to 6pm as you can.

BT's picture

I'll be back.

ido09s's picture

I am doing my best to get there.

D-on's picture

I'll be there ..... but a wee bit late.

Here is the link to the Agenda for the Council meeting:

http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/council_then/War...

It may take a while for them to get to the MTB issue: then again, it may not. Therefore best to get there for the 6.00pm kickoff.

As it is a public meeting, you can come and go as you please (unless they go into closed session, in which case you don't get to hear what they discuss).

MATTERS CARRIED OVER FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING OF
9 FEBRUARY 2010

With the bike plan discussed latter.

ar_junkie's picture

They don't stick to the sequence of events listed in the agenda.

hawkeye's picture

An urgency motion is expected to be moved, probably at the meeting's commencement, to get access reinstatement on the agenda and dealt with on the evening.

Hence the need to get there as early as possible. If you can shift your schedule to get there for 6pm it will help a lot. If this is not possible, your presence will still make a significant difference when the debate takes place.

Brian's picture

I'll be there at 6pm.

Pants's picture

I too will be there tonight.

I am coming from Kurnell, can anyone tell me what the Spit is like at about 5.30pm? my guess would be its a parking lot Sad

BT's picture

It's not great though either. Heading South is actually worse at that time because they change the lanes on the Spit Bridge so that only one is going Southbound and three Northbound.

Anyone know how many people the Public Gallery holds?

Whisperer's picture

Probably between 6.30 and 7
decision time ... Nobmob tee shirt or bright lycra top to make a point?
I guess it would be good to make it obvious that many of the attendees are mtb riders - how about we all wear helmet, caps, riding gear etc?

christine's picture

bridge will be better than the spit at that time, it flows a bit better... how good are you travelling all that way?!

whisperer, you can pick the riders even if we don't wear riding stuff - they are the healthy looking people! It was so obvious last night...

familyguy's picture

I'm coming home on the roadie, should be passing through about then and will mill about looking suitably cheesed off.

With the amount of sweat I lost last night I don't think it would be fare on others for me to wear my NoBMoB tee tonight Eye-wink

BT's picture

I was only one of about 3 or 4 riders who turned up in cycling gear last night. We all knew who everyone was anyway so I don't think it's essential tonight?

I'm coming straight from work this time so no option for me. Sad

LadyToast's picture

I'll be turning up late, and in motorcycle gear. Don't lynch me, I'm one of you guys.

garyinoz's picture

Unfortunately I'm pre booked tonight otherwise Id be there, good to see so many going. Will be keen to get an update when you guys/gals get a chance.

CB's picture

pretend to be a moto cross rider and tell everyone ( including the Manly Daily ) that it's all your fault ;o)

See you there
