The recommendation is positive, more so than expected.

This still needs to get through council and residents have gone from objecting to the Nichols pde trail to objecting to any trail on the escarpment

I think we have seen with the recent Manly Dam situation that if we all write in when the time is right, our voices can be heard.

When we find out who to write to and what needs saying let's promote it all we can.

Ok yeah we do need another letter campaign to thanking council staff for a fairly comprehensive and ballanced report and encouraging the councilors to take up the 5 recommendations as put (sure we'd like Nichols to be kept open but considering the history and resident opposition it aint going to happen.)

Full list of names and address can be found here
http://www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/yourcouncil/councillors
Email list for simplicity:

[email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

Please CC council staff responsible for the report: [email protected], [email protected]

and rider rep Allan David: [email protected]

Or click this mailto: link.

500 1 line emails is better than 50 3 page letters. Someone suggested faxing in a copy of your email too, that may be over the top but it's up to you.

The more BMCC locals who writing the better too

Above link, also has a form letter for referrence or use. I have been advised that on this instance a form letter is suitable.

If you cc: Alan David as above, I will take care of the faxing.

Dear Councilors

I'd like to offer my support of the recommendations found in Item 9, page50, of the Blue Mountains City Council Ordinary Meeting Business Paper of 16/3/2010:

While some riders may lament the lost of the Nichols pde trail and some of the non sustainable sections at Old Bathurst rd I found the report to be well balanced and can certainly understand both resident and council concern re Nichols Pde and definitely see the need for managed, sustainable trails.

While less than 30% of rider belong to any organised club or group I believe this issue has stirred up a lot of interest in the general riding community with some 700 riders joining a facebook group to support the formalisation of the trails.

Couple this with a good base of young (and not so young) local riders who are enthusiastic toward the prospect of being included in volunteer programs in line with recommendation 1. and I believe council is in a fantastic position to engage this growing user group in a positive and forward thinking manner.

I thank Council Officers for this well balanced and commonsense report, which addresses all concerns raised by residents, councilors and the riding community and trust councilors will be able to support the recommendations in full.

apologies for the poor advice on my part, especially considering previous advice from Flynny.

Please do not use the form letters that I have provided ... please personalise where possible aspects whilst still supporting the 5 report recommendations.

thanks
