Tentative planning: Training ride - GNR or Nthn Beaches

I want to do a bit of training for DirtWorks - build up a few km's and hours on the bike.

I'd like to do Wiseman's GNR but not overly keen on doing it solo for safety reasons.
I'm looking to do about 60 - 80 km, or 4 - 6 hours. Minimal stops along the way apart from nutrition break at half way point.
Meet at the ferry, up Devine's Hill, out past Clare's bridge for x km or hours, and then return via Shepherds gully.

Anyone interested?

Or the alternative is some Northern Beaches fun combining a few of the local trails. Something like Cascades, Warrimoo, Showground, Ryland, loop around Duffy's Forest, Duck Holes, some of West Head, and Centre Track back to home. I'll map something out a bit more definite tonight and work out the km's.
I can do this one solo but will push a lot harder if riding with someone Smiling

I have a completely free day tomorrow so times are flexible, however with daylight savings finished keen on an earlier rather than later start.

Anyone?

I was planning to do 5-6 laps of Manly Dam from about midday tomorrow. Can't do any earlier so that would mean I couldn't get to GNR but I'd be keen to try the other ride you mentioned (haven't done any of those places before) if you are ok with starting around midday?

For the nearly the same vertical as and K's as Dirtworks; you can do three loops of combined duckhole, center, perimeter and long, park your car at terry hills shops for a water and food stop after every lap..

Well local ride it is today. Think I'll do a bit of exploring around West Head.
Sorry Fatboy but I'm up and heading out now so will probably be stuffed by midday! Enjoy the dam Smiling

cheers

I rode from the shops at Terrey Hills along Terrey Hills/Duck Holes tracks, road around to Centre track, back to Duck Holes/Terrey Hills tracks across to Perimter track, Long track (and back, obviously) and then continued around to Cullamine track, to the south of Terrey Hills along Sandy track, Neverfail Gully and Larool and then back along the road to the shops. With a few short out and backs thrown in (Slades Lookout, etc.) it made up about 60kms.

What made the whole thing painful is the sticky gunk that you end up peddling through a decent amount of the time, especially going up steep slopes that have ben hammered by horses (and there is a lot of this around the south of Terrey Hills - Sandy track, etc.). Trying to climb up those when every peddle stroke sees your back wheel spinning and you not getting anywehere became a little tortuous.

Great for a training ride, really gets the legs working but expect it to be pretty messy and ensure that you set aside a good hour to clean your kit afterwards!

Well I made it down Duck Holes and about 50m into Chiltern when the rear derailleur finally failed (it's been a bit weird after breaking a hanger a couple of weeks ago). Broke the spring in the cage so lost all chain tension plus snapped the cable. Funny thing is though that I don't recall hitting any sticks or rocks to make it fail.
Anyway I took the defailure off, shortened the chain and rode it home single speed. 10km trip instead of 70km!

I've already got a new derailleur on order so hopefully that arrives in the next couple of days. For now I guess I'll go wrestle another Easter egg Eye-wink

I would be up for something like this over one of the next weekends.

Just need to sort the best day out with the missus.

Never been to the GNR before so happy to tag along for this one or even a trip up to the blue mountains.

I would be keen for GNR or something similiar next weekend.

I am doing B2B next weekend on the road bike and then would be keen for GNR the following weekend, I need to get some mtb riding in, as I have been training on the roadie for the past 3 months now.

I have some concerns I am gonna hit Dirtworks and not have ridden the MTB in so long that I will be screwed. Just need to clear this knee injury asap so I can get back out there.

Well I'm still keen to ride GNR and next Saturday may be a possibility. I'll confirm in the next couple of days.
The weekend after is possible too, but I'd prefer to get out there sooner rather than later. DW is only 4 weeks away!

Cheers
Jon

My XT Shadow spring failed on me last week. What was your dérailleur? I just chucked on an XTR it's like chalk and cheese, so quiet - I love it!

It was an SLX shadow. I've put on a borrowed XT shadow (a bit bent...) so I can get out for a ride tomorrow (no work - picnic day Smiling) and my new XT shadow should arrive later this week. (Along with new shifters and cables - can't wait!)
