SEE YOU THERE!

NOTE THAT ON THE MAP IT SHOWS MEETING POINT TO BE AT END OF OVAL, WHILST ACTUAL POINT IS CORNER OF GULLY AND BEROWRA WATERS ROAD!

ALSO, IF YOU HAVEN'T ARRIVED BY 8:10 AND HAVEN'T CONTACTED ME (my number's in my profile), WE'LL ASSUME YOU'RE NOT COMING...

If you've been here before with me, you'll know what to expect. If you haven't here's a rough outline:

We start by going along a nice quiet road, which starts to descend, and gradually you go faster and faster, until a final mad rush, where you'll hit terminal velocity (well, not quite, but I hit 66.6km/h once). Like the sound of that? It's just the beginning.

The real event, the track itself is off a side street (Ti-Tree Cres), and goes into a very bushy, narrow fern lined firetrail, with plenty of waterbars to keep you happy... as well as some surprisingly long descents (with the obvious uphill that follows...). If you're not satisfied with over 5km of that, check out the awesome Naa Badu Lookout (I think that's how it's spelt). It looks much better in real life than in the photo.

A bit more of this lovely leafy firetrail (though I think it's a bit narrow to drive a vehicle on at the moment), and then an extremely technical ascent - heaps of fun - before the final, relatively short, uphill slog on tarseal. I've heard this track compared to the highly-rated Winmalee, though never having ridden that one, I can't really judge...

So at the top of the hill, there's a bit of interesting stuff, then some more great descents on a couple of other trails, which are made so the hill going back up is extremely gradual... great stuff!

A reasonable XC bike would be required for this ride - preferably a dually, though I imagine it's easily possible on a hardtail, just not as fun! Technical skills required to get the most out of this ride, as well as a good level of fitness. I like riding at a brisk pace, though am not usually in an immense hurry

Check out the database on TrailFlix for the main firetrail (that goes from Berkley Cl to Ti-Tree Cres). Hope it's enticing; don't get fooled by the 3-star rating!

Im in!! I've just moved into Berowra and I've been looking forward to exploring my new local trails!! My fitness is pretty poor at the mo though, so I may hold the group up a bit if that's OK.

Hey, how'd this go? It doesn't look like a particularly long trail, but if it's a nice ride we should probably put it in the trails DB.

Anyone take a GPS? Smiling

It's a great ride, which consists mainly of the Berkley to Ti-Tree tracks, though if you were to create a ride database for Berowra, it could also consist of the other tracks, all firetrails:

Turner Road to Woodcourt Road
Lonsdale Ave to Wideview Road
Warrina St to the Gully Road

Though when I ride it, I usually only go on the main track. To a loop of Berowra with all the extensions would take a good three hours.

It's definately a good one to dump in the database, as it has good views of Berowra Creek, lots of waterbars, and feels sort of enclosed, even though it's just firetrail.

Other areas which I think need to be put into the database include the one which goes from the beginning of Galston Gorge to Clarinda St in Hornsby Hts (which is just next to the Quarry Road Track) and the loop of Cherrybook, both of which are about 8km loops, including minimal road.

I've never been to Berowra and your description of the ride sounds like fun. So I'm keen to give it a go. I hope the weather is good!

Cherrybrook is in BVRP so it's not technically legal.

Single track near Turner Rd is also not technically legal.

About the Cherrybrook track and databasing, I'm referring to the long loops of firetrail rather than any of the other stuff to be put on the rides database. You know, the firetrail going from Cherrybrook Lakes to the other side of it (not the singletrack), which should be logged.

I'm no longer able to make this ride, but I'd still like to try it some time soon. I'll keep an eye out for the next one.

Hi guys,

still on tomorrow morning?

Cya!

Tristania's picture

Sure is!

It might rain tomorrow, not much... I don't mind it ! Is anyone worried about it ?

See you at 8 am !

Tristania's picture

Rain's scheduled for later that day, so we should miss it. If it's sprinkling, that's fine, though. I wouldn't want to if it were heavy but that's unlikely.

8am Gully Road!

That was a great ride - one of this week's highlights! Glad all of you made it, (just in the nick of time...) and hope it was a great fun...
