Bike shop won't package up and put it in a box for shipping(condition of sale apparently with Giant). The bike needs to roll out of the shop fully built and they can't even provide a box to put it in!!! So , I need to find a way of getting a bike picked up from the store (Melbourne metro) and sent to Sydney either as a whole unit or broken down. Any ideas?

What kind of a Bike Shop cant give you a box for it? I mean…a Box ????

Not one that I would be sure I would want to deal with…I have picked one up many a time from my LBS no questions asked

That sounds rubbish from the bike shop. I'd suggest you call them back, speak to the big cheese there, and tell them to grow up.

For what it's worth, I got a new bike freighted from South Aus to Melbourne for $100. I don't know which company did it, but if you call BMCR (my not so Local Bike Shop) 0884 109499, they can give you more info.

Scott have the same condition of sale I believe - they won't sell via "mail order" and the bike must be handed over to the customer fully assembled.

LBS or road trip... Smiling

from Lawrencia Cycles (Hawthorn) and they wouldn't ship it to me in Sydney either.

They said someone had to come into the store and pick it up. They did, however, pack it up nicely in a box after I gave them credit card details over the phone and then I got my folks in Melbourne who live nearby to collect it and I organised a courier to pick up the box from their house. I used these guys - cheap ($77), efficient and full insurance:

Good luck.

A guy I work with is having a simialr arguement about a Specialised out of Brisbane. They are now allowed to ship it, has to be picked up in person by you or a family member. Its cheaper for him to fly up from Sydney and bring it back than pay sydney prices, something's wrong with this picture

I would drive down to Melb, pick it up and then ride some trails in Melb, ACT and then back home over a 3 - 4 day period etc.

I would too....but about 3-4 days after I got back I would be served divorce papers!!!

Was going to fly to the Gold coast pick up bike but still in the box & catch the next flight back & still cheaper than Sydney how bizzare is that , in the end didn't get the bike lol .

cambo, i reckon the answer is you need a friend in melbourne. then they can pick up the whole bike for you and dismantle it at home and put it in a box and post for you. you can get a box by asking nicely at bike shops easily (i did it to go to nz) and the dismantling needed to get the bike in is minor. if i had a mate in melbourne that knew which wheel was the front i'd ask him for you, but i don't sorry. hopefully you might...
