at the Allambie Heights entrance to 19th Hole.

Lots of tyre tracks indicating people are ignoring the sign. Sad

... of the land managers is important. I think they've realised (and we keep reminding them) that 100% compliance is never going to happen, so we have to do something about making the trail IMBA compliant for the long term. I'm glad to see in the draft plan they've taken on board the suggestions Rob, myself and others have made that the only way to fix the erosion issues long term is to re-route the trails where required.

But yes, you're right ignoring closures really doesn't help.

There are things we can do to improve compliance

* Better signs. People are more likely to comply with a request (any request) if you give a reason.
* Provision and promotion of wet weather alternatives like TH
* Forward defence - get people to go to the more wet-weather tolerant sites in the first place so you don't have to fight their emotional momentum when they turn up and face a "track closed" sign. Better publicity is the key.
* Enforcement - issue some fines

I turned a guy around yesterday who was about to turn into 19th Hole - claimed to have come up from Manly and not seen any signs. I was highly sceptical but to his credit he relented and rode home via Allambie Road.
