Red, Large frame 2005 Demo nine ser# PK472042

Stolen from Wollstonecraft last night by 'the pros'.

This proves that you can NEVER be too paranoid folks. I thought this bike was secure. Multiple locks, chained to 2" steel pipe, covered, in a locked garage inside a secure car park.

Got some pics. How do I upload them?

Police have been contacted and will be around soon.

I'll let Avanti dealer know the ser# too.

hope you all have a better day.

Cheers,

Damn! Sorry to hear this - complete bummer.

Load your pics with this form: http://nobmob.com/node/add/image

They go into a moderation queue, but should show up pretty quick.

OOI, how did they get through the locks? Cut the pipe? Or the Lock, or the chain? FWIW, I have hefty cable and an Abus Granit X-Plus 54 ("As secure as Fort Knox" is their claim) in my garage. Figure the cable is the weak link, but even if that's chopped, someone's gonna have a tough, tough time getting the Abus off there. BTW - for all the criminally minded out there - this isn't a challenge! Eye-wink

I've posted your message on MTB-OZ also.

Sorry to here about your loss fricken dirty thieves !!!!! I keep my ponys in the lounge room next to my Bull Terrier's bed too many light young fingers round here in Newport, also have my best one insured only $8.00 a week covered in and outside the property on an extension of my contents policy, well worth the cost of two beers a week.

Hi,

I too had an ABUS Granit, plus 2.0m "heavy duty cut resistant" cable.

They obviously tried to get through the Abus but couldn't, however the 2" steel pipe and cut-resitant cable were no challenge. The cable was neatly sliced through in one chop.

They came prepared, used an angle grinder or hacksaw or something to cut through the pipe and then leverage to remove it and slide the bike off.

I can only assume the Abus left with the bike.

They also stole helmet, gloves, motorcyle helmet (sucked in! it was a pot-plant holder!)

Interesting that they removed the D9 over my car, but not a scratch or mark... At least they didn't leave me with multiple insurance claims (so decent of them). I still would like to pound some justice into them...

Police have attended, said there's a spree of break-ins in the lower north shore area, so folks living around here, BE WARNED.

Insurance company seems okay so far, it was locked in the garaged, and chained up securely. I have new-for-old, so if they decide to cover it, I'll get the stuff back. But I was fond of this bike dammit. Not sure what the deal is with the D9 as I believe Specialized have superceded with D7 and D8 models.?!?!?

Maybe I'll get a chance to go shopping.

Any recommendations?

Interesting, 3 bikes went from my Garage recently around the car somehow without a scratch as well!

They left one bike behind, but didn't even move it to make it easier to get the other bikes out, took them out the narrow side????

the Cannondale I was going to try to buy was stolen from Manly a little while ago too...also chained up, at back door of his shop down a tiny alleyway that you wouldn't even know was there ... mind you, he got more from the insurance than he would have when he sold it!
the Manly Daily said the other day there was a spate of stolen bikes - guess I will have to tease George (Gazza) less as he is obsessive about his being put away!

Hey Dez_b,

Who do you insure with?

I'll give a report on my company soon depending on how it pans out. Talking to assessor tomorrow, though it is sounding positive. I have not yet received a formal "ok" of the claim yet though.

No fingerprints on scene, but not unexpected. Police have been full of very good advice and surprisingly helpful and responded quickly. Can't complain there either.

Police mentioned that there are a number of 'crews' around who steal only bikes, and don't really care much about what kind/quality. The MO is mainly random and opportunistic, targetting larger appartment blocks in preference to single dwellings (higher density of contents). They also pick up incidental valuables such as golf clubs etc Anything they can carry.

Regards,

I have a contents and home policy with QBE , you can specify single expensive items such as jewellry to be covered in the event of a break in and consequent theft or out side the home so in my case the bike having a heafty replacement cost it is covered in the event of say someone steeling it off the back of my truck , but even with this I never leave it out of eye sight as well you know they feel like one of the family and you get very attached to them , strange isnt it that you can feel that way over a piece of alloy and rubber , but once you get a bike set up with your own specs it becomes personal.
We had a break in a couple of years ago and lost computers digi camera and the kids play station etc , the Police were amazing and the insurance company were even better and replaced new for old well worth the premium.
Good luck with your claim , and on a posative note there are some amazing bikes coming out '07-'08' you are going to have fun in the candy shop hmm!!!! Morewood's,Nicholai's,Yeti's,Brooklyns,Cannondale Judge,Specialized,Turner,Commencial's,Santacruz v10,Foes,Orange, oh makes my head spin.

i had my old bike stolen when i was younger, uninsured, bolted and locked to a big steel wall in a security car-park..u know what they did? they took the f&^*ing wall!! hehe just thought id mention it, the only way is to never leave it out of your sight i guess, if they want it, they'll get it!

demonine's picture

Yeah, the advice from the Police was basically that if the crooks want it they'll find a way to get it. No amount of security is enough to stop a determined thief.

The other advice was, make your garage more difficult to get into and out of than your neighbours! Remove the incentive.

So, from now on, any bike I have will be kept in my living space and out of sight or thieves.
