The one on ebay looks awfully like the one which was for sale at Aldi before Christmas sometime. I haven't actually used mine yet, but it is quite solid i.e. heavy.

the first one that is. I got one from my wife and kids for Christmas. It's fine if your not a professional ! The tightening handles can come loose from the bolt they're attached to, so we need to keep nipping up the the locking nut to prevent this. The blue knob(s) haven't come off as yet.

I've already saved myself at least $100 + with the work I've done on my bike, so for $40.00 when they were at Aldi was worth the money.

is the way to go - they are going very cheap on ebay. We have a similar one and have had it for 3 or so years and have had not one problem with it and it is always in use

I use something similar to the second one.
The only thing I could say is the clamp that grasps the bike is a little light/flimsy compared to the rest of the stand.
Saying that, I haven't had a bike fall off yet and it seems to hold most bikes fine.
Cheers

I've got a version of the 2nd one, that I got from T7 years ago. It has made everything to do with working on my bike very easy - even down to the simplest of tasks like cleaning the drivetrain after a ride.

It's held up for the last 3 years or so without a hitch, even holding my DH bike quite securely. The one thing I would mention though is that the balance can often be a little weird when doing some tasks, but nothing a foot place on one of the legs for a moment doesn't cover!

I've had a replace some of the bolts, as they rusted out when I washed the bike down and left the stand out for a week (coastal Sydney!), but the stand is Aluminium so has stayed lovely. A spray of Teflon lube on the sliding bits every now and then, and a bit of grease on the levers, and I reckon I'll have this stand for a long time to come!

I bought the second one from ebay and am happy with it.
Good enough for home maintenance jobs. Probably easy enough to fold up and take to bike races too.

I filed a bit off the clamp so that it would fit between the frame and shock for one of my bikes - this way I can mount the bike in the stand at the natural balance point of the bike.

My BF got some long PVC pipe from Bunnings that he then places in the clamp and then our bikes balance on either end - very cheap but effective bike rack for races

Dah.... save your money and hang it from the ceiling.

I use rope tied round a couple of beams in my underground carpark. Has the advantage of taking up zero space and I can adjust the height depending on what I'm working (read breaking beyond repari) at the time.

Like this but from a ceiling beam...
