Why the trail extension at Narrabeen Lagoon is expen$ive

I know Rob has questioned the cost of the trail extension between Deep Creek and the car park near the NSW institute of sport. After watching the construction progress over the past few months I stopped this week to take a few photos.
Its now obvious that the council is building a raised platform for that section of the trail. Not 100% sure why although I have read of the difficulty the construction team had back in the 40's when putting in the road base for the Wakehurst Parkway. Anyway if the council was forced to spend the money to put in the raised platform then I think we should be congratulating them on the commitment it has taken to complete the track round the lake.

Do we know when this is scheduled for completion?

Looks a lot like north shore to me.
(You know that horrible stuff that people keep telling us is bad for the environment.)
Hope they will include a few kickers & drops

No idea when its scheduled for completion although when I was riding past this morning noticed they have completed almost all of the gal steel base and started planking one of the lookouts about half way along the structure. Will probably be a few more months before its finished.

The have also cleared the ground on both sides of deep creek on the inland side of the road bridge so it looks like the connection between the new platform and the existing dirt track will be via a chicane that goes under the road bridge, across deep creek and then will have to cross back over/under the road to get to the new north shore track. Who said architects don't have vision?

Also looks like it will be wheel chair friendly from the car park end down to deep creek.

We'll still have the option of jumping the creek, right?

You just need to come straight down that big hill behind deep creek reserve then ignite your CO2 canisters and your next of kin should have something to put on YouTube.

I'm not sure about the completion timeframe for the raised boardwalk trail from Deep Creek to Middle Creek that is currently under construction by Warringah Council, but I noticed in Saturday's Manly Daily that Pittwater Council has announced that work on the pedestrian/cycleway bridge will be taking place from 25-03-11 to 20-06-11.
I've talked to one of the Engineers & he says that the new bridge will be parrallel to the existing road bridge on the lagoon side, linking up with the paths there.
@ps - You won't have to loop under the bridge on each side.
Also, there will be a link on each side for cyclists using the road to access the new bridge

Article in the Manly Daily with same time frame.

Also mentions the current underpass will be closed I guess when construction starts/continues.

Added some more photos. Progress is pretty slow, might be finished by christmas.

Noticed them working on Thursday and looking good - how popular will it be with families and every man and his dog - bring it on

Been a few weeks since I took these photos so guess that the bridge over deep creek is finished now. Hopefully they will open it soon so we can take the kids all the way round to the creek near the golf course. No idea when stage two that finishes the lap will happen.

There's been some community disagreement about the alignment of the final stage of the Narrabeen Lagoon Multi-Use Trail between, with the Council proposing several alternative routes for consideration. In particular, Cromer Golf Course have been quite vocal in wanting the route to avoid the Crown Land that they are occupying.

From the Warringah Website:

Community Consultation for Stage 2B
On 5 May 2011, Warringah Council hosted a Community Workshop to discuss options for the trail alignment through the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation and the Cromer Golf Club (Stage 2B). The options were also made available online from 3 May until the 3 June 2011.

The feedback gained through the above workshop and exhibition will be analysed in connection to recommend a preferred trail route. The investigations and analysis of options will be reported to Council 27 September 2011.

Howerver, I can't seem to find anything about this in the Meeting Agenda. Hmmmm......
