Garmin heart rate straps

I have been using the same light weight Garmin heart rate strap for a while now and recently its started dropping out and not recording during rides. I replaced the battery before the weekends ride and it worked OK until I got it wet. Then it stopped completely and wouldn't work on the Sunday.

After reading the manual and seeing its rated to 30m I tried it again last night and it worked again. Anyone seen this type of intermittent behaviour before?

This is the ride where it stopped completely.

And one where it doesn't seem to have recorded consistently.

is it tight enough on your chest?
Also - when you sawpped batteries, did you put the rubber o-ring back in?

all obvious solutions I'm afraid.

If its still no go, I have 4 brand new chest straps (I only use one, but have a number of Garmins, all which came with its own chest strap) sitting around at home. Drop me a PM.

I had the same intermittent problems with the older analog Garmin heart rate monitors. Changing the battery would make it more reliable for a little while. I think the manual says to change to O-ring every time you change the battery but it always looked okay so I never worried.

After I lost my old Garmin I upgraded to a new one with a ANT+ heart rate monitor and it is heaps better. It never drops out or goes to 200 heat rate at random times.

Seems to be ok with a new battery, not so much an old one unfortunatly.

Yep - I have one too. Sad Same thing, it has been intermittent for some time now so I just gave up using it.

Suggest you go onto the Garmin forum and see what answers you can get for your particular model and strap.

Have you tried using GEL under the sensors? (also it needs to be fairly tight)
