Just in from The Rangers…

Hello Riders,

A contractor will be undertaking some track maintenance works on the section of track between Southern Cross Way and Nyrang Road at Allambie Heights this Thursday (April 14) and Friday (April 15). This work will require use of heavy machinery and so this section of track will be closed and riders will need to detour via the road at this point. All other sections of the track will remain open, and this section should be available again for weekend use.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Kind regards,

Manly Dam Rangers

Here's hoping they need the heavy machinery to put in some gnarly berms, and not to dumb it down.

That's one of my favourite bits of the trail, down towards the Nyrang Road end Sad

Use of heavy machinery does not bode well... hopefully they're just cleaning the dish and rubble drains that have been filled with silt from the recent rains.

Don't know what they are doing but they have a lot of rocks they are taking onto the track. It is also one of my favourite bits and I am a bit concerned.

Took the dog for a walk last night and went and had a look.

The three little "valleys" that went across the top of the track for drainage ( which had become quite fun now to maunal through or jump over)have been filled in with loose rocks. Not sure how they will be finished off. The sketchy half buried boardwalk on that corner with the dip in it has had the boardwalk removed and a lot of dirt dumped into it and flattened out. The drainage bit that had formed into a bit of a lip immediately after has also had a lot of dirt dumped into it, and the bit of track straight after this ( that become nicely erroded and rocky now) has had alot of loose dirt dumped into so it can be smooted and flattened out.

My initial thought of a finished project is smooth super highway. Sad

Mmmm...not sure what to say. I appreciate the Council supporting mountain biking at the Dam to no end, as I appreciate them spending $$ to work on the track...SO THANKYOU WARRINGAH COUNCIL ( and I do mean that)...but...why oh why won't they let the intended user group of the track give some feedback into the maintianence - indeed, we aren't allowed to volunteer our free labour to them.

We'll see how this looks by tomorrow I guess, at least we have a good few months of winter weather to errode all this back to something fun again Smiling

Heaven forbid if anyone rode it in the wet and undid all that good work...

Took the dog for a walk this morning with fingers crossed..........................................the work has turned the track into a bizarre thing, with super smooth sections and then loose rocks scattered over those old bunny hopping sections. Looks like some riders actually went for a ride in the torrential rain which has made the track dangerous. the sand poured on top of the fun sections is so deep i nearly lost a thong...........................

Might take a look .in the morning and report back.

Went to check out the new section. It has been cut up by rides (didn’t they see how much it rained!!!! And two rides went past in the 10 minutes I was there this morning). The changes are going to increase the speed down there, by removing the technical element, which is a shame.
At least the council is putting money into the track, which is a good thing
