First ride in 3 weeks since popping my L5/S1 disc twice in April. Managed to finish completely lower back pain free. Lost 10 minutes repairing a snapped chain at the 3 km mark. Really enjoyed the technical climbs and technical downhills and dig'd the Appin coursed.

Well done to the Chocolate Foot team for such a great event, will definitely enter again next year if it's on!

Would love to know your secret to a painfree run @andyfev. Seems like those with healthy backs struggled. I normally gob down celebrex & panadeine forte to get me through a race when my l5/s1 decides to play up but took norgesics on Sunday but all they did was make me nauseus and at one stage threw up a Gu.

I've been working on my core strength for the past few weeks and doing everything like an old man. It's all the little overstretching here and there that often cause back pain. Knowing how to eliminate them from day-to-day life makes a whole world of difference. I hadn't realised just how much strain I was putting on my back doing meaningless tasks until my strength and rehab PT told be to evaluate everything I did everyday then work out ways to avoid doing that task.

For example, just cleaning my teeth I lean over the sink... fix: stand up tall and spit (pardon for the gross example!) into the sink then use a glass to rinse the mouth. Genius! I've also made an investment in a Mackenzie lumbar support for when driving or sitting at the office chair. These supports feel unnatural at first but with a little perseverance they really pay-off.

On top of that I also dropped my seat height at the expense of my legs! They cramped pretty early and without warning around the 18 km mark! I also changed my stem to a shorter 90 mm one and now have 3 spacers underneath it. Worked a treat!

Hope these little tips help Smiling
