CRC credit card issue

CRC had a well discussed credit card issue a few months back where it people were having fraudulent charges made to their credits cards with the common factor being purchases from CRC. I have avoided them for that reason but after buying what I can lately from alternative, Australian websites there is no getting around their range and their prices.

Thus I just wanted to find out if anyone had purchased anything from CRC lately and if they have had any issues or heard about anyone else still have issues when purchasing from them.

I agree that the best option is just to pay CRC using your Paypal account (which can just link back to the same credit card) as it avoids any authentication or CC details being handled by CRC

Same here I just spent a bit on the CC on wednesday. I am keeping a close eye on my bank account though. So far so good.

I used PayPal for a CRC order around the same time as the problems reported, and I also had problems with my credit card and ended up having to have it re-issued.
The credit card company would not give me any further details, however there was a common factor or CRC involved.

Saying that however I'd be surprised if the problem still exists now - the credit card companies would have jumped on any problem and I'd expect them to have fixed it by now...

Just found the following forum post about CRC - http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?.... Sounds like they admitted that they had a problem which is admirable and that they have done something about it. That is positive but where there's one security issue....

I used Paypal, which was advised on numerous postings. I ordered recently and will see.

Just spent a few $$$ on crc with my cc.. As yet it all seems fine. I use a direct debit card for all online purchases and transfer money into the account on an as needed basis - funds can't be taken off the account if there isn't any $$$ on it in the first place.

I got stung last time around but I just made another purchase yesterday. CC companies are pretty hot on fraudulent transactions these days so I'll continue to use my cc online. Might just go an check my account now Eye-wink

@snaphappy, is it a visa/master debit card? I inquired about these with Westpac and when you are using it online you are using the visa/master card bit and it doesn't matter if you have funds or not. You just get charged if you over draw it but it doesn't stop you using it. Its the same with any credit card limit, a limit is not how much you can spend but just when you start getting overdrawn charges.
