Mini DW Rescheduled

Sorry folk, there was more heavy rain on GNR last night, and probably more to come.

Given the state of the track reports last week think it would be foolish to attempt the trip on the original date.

Have pushed it back 'til end of Jul, please confirm if this is good/bad for you.

I have already seen the long range weather forecast for this week. Weekend of June 23/24 is still supposed to be rainy! Sad Let us hope that the bureau has this wrong. Can you believe this weather?

^#%&*^$ !!

Matt's picture

You can't really complain about the rain too much given dam levels are reported to be approaching 50% from 39% not so long ago, keep it coming! As long as you're sensible/inventive about where/how you ride you can still get out anyway, you just get a bit wet, but that's what coats are for ;^}.

I'm hoping to come along on Saturday whatever the weather.

Ta,
Matt.

What long range report did you read, the BOM site has it fine and sunny next weekend with the fine weather starting Thursday?

There are always options to get out.. but of course it will be very wet next weekend rain or not.

Fingers crossed we get a break from the rain and wind.

Ditch the family Evan & come riding with us Smiling

I was looking forward to this! Curse the weather again.

Possibly fire trails are the best bet for a ride this weekend, as they hold their integrity the best. Somewhere that has a lot of rocks and gravel. Would that mean Terrey Hills again?

There is always Centennial Park. I hear that cycle paths hold up well in the rain! Eye-wink

Bruce's picture

was looking forward to riding jacks track, lets hope it drys up this week!

After yesterday's escapades, I would have thought that we were pretty seasoned to riding in the wet...

Stuart M's picture

That is unless you're going to don your lycra and ride the skinnies, wheels that is. I was going to let the first post re CP slide because I thought things may have changed but 2 references in as many weeks got me intringued so I made a phone call.

Centennial Park, and all its associated parklands ie Moore and Queens Parks, are a definite no no for mountain bikes. That eroded track around the perimeter just inside the fence line is for joggers and walkers only. There is nowhere to ride a bike of any description in the park except for, and I quote, "sealed roads"

Sorry guys but the rangers are ever present and don't mind handing out fines. As far as I am aware this has been the case since I started riding about 4 yrs ago and will be for a long time to come.

Don't believe me, call the Parklands office on 9339 6699

Stuart M's picture

that was probably tongue in cheek.

Maybe Narrabeen Lake circuit is an option, atleast the water won't have far to drain off Eye-wink

Hmmmm... well read this:

http://www.shutupandride.net/2007/06/sunday-17-j...

Made it to Wisemans Ferry road... and came across the first detour signs. We drove around them, and found that the first bridge down the road had been washed away...

Got on to the Great North Road (after a couple of monster, big wash out, hill climbs), and then went North... Huge amounts of washout on the way there... Lots and lots and lots of water.

Ride back was a bit faster, but still lots of impassable or near impassable bits (all actually passable, but lots of mud and water). The surface the entire way was boggy and soft, with loooots of chain suck... and some humungous down hill washouts...

This isn't painting a very good picture for me... anyone else? Eye-wink

Let us not despair yet - they were at the East end - we weren't planning on going there. It might stop raining and the sun might come out and all that.

Will be up North so I'll have to pass on this date... Sad

Bruce's picture

The weekend of the 28-29th is a no go for me at the moment Sad

Caro's picture

Then there would be the Nobmob BBQ on Sunday the 22nd, so people might be around that weekend?

Am going snowboarding the 28th of July so that would be a no go for me. Sad

The weekend after, the 5th of August is another (is it already the last?) 8hour on Sunday if people care about that....

There we go!
These are my thoughts..
Carolin

P.S. Only 2 more sleeps Smiling

Rob's picture

Erm... OK - when can you guys make it? A week before or after?

Bruce's picture

the 21st would suit me Smiling, hoping to be at the last 8hr on the 4-5th august weekend.

ar_junkie's picture

Just saw this link again... 21st is better for me too...

Rob's picture

Doh! There are already committed folk for the 28th. Sorry, don't want to move it again. Come if you can, it'll be a goodie Smiling

Rob's picture

This is the postponement comment from Mini DW. I'll move the other older comments here too, that thread was getting a bit confusing!

I heard that GNR was very wet on the weekend. There were large, deep puddles, washed out areas, etc, etc.

Which means... keep an eye on the weather, but we might have to think about postponing this ride. It would only be a postponement until after Coffs, 'cos am very keen on such a ride.

I'm not keen to ride somewhere they reported was waterlogged if there's even just a couple of showers this week... and the forecast is... rain for the next two weeks! Sad

Check back Friday please, I'll not delete this post, but change the title and date if binning it.

evan's picture

Count me in on this. Smiling

Due to a family matter I cannot make this. Sad
May organise a Andersons + Oaks for Sunday. May also throw St Helenas out and back in the mix.
