Hi All

I'm trying to put a UST Crossmark on my UST rims and I just can't get it to seal. In the past this has always been hassle free but with this one it's being a pain, soapy water etc all not working. Does anyone in the Manly region have a compressor that I could get a hit of air from at some stage (my arms are shagged from trying this with a track pump)? I can get anywhere in the region at any time that suits you

thanks in advance
danny

You are welcome to use mine. I have a compressor at my factory in brookvale and one and my house in forestville.

The best idea is just go to a service station!

that just use short bursts rather than a contant air flow that are the problem. I assume it's because they have no holding tank but just have a small compressor built into the head unit or something similar. They're no better than a track pump really.

I will take you up on your offer, I can get to brookvale very easily, I'll have to find my presta to schraeder adapter first Smiling Is this afternoon OK for you? PM me with your phone number and I'll give you a call

thanks again

I hate changing tyres. My own fault as I run tubeless with rim tape only - no rim strip. It's the rim strip that helps seal tyre against rim. Like you I've had many moments at service stations and find those hoses where you set the pressure useless. Result = many dummy spits!

If I can't get the tyre to seal properly at the local servo I just put a tube in and blow it up to nearly 50 psi. Then carefully lever one side open so I can remove the tube and insert a valve then usually find as one side of the tyre is sealed then when I try again I can usually get it up with a floor pump.

Got my compressor from Super Cheap Auto at the Mall for under a hundred bucks - the price of a Schwalbe tyre from your LBS. Hose and fittings I already had from an earlier compressor that died a few years back, but you could pick a complete set up for under $40 and the short Presta-Shraeder brass adapter you'd need can be had from DY Bike Hub for a gold coin donation.

Get the short brass adapter, the long ones don't allow the nipple inside the pump head to depress the valve stem, which will make getting the air in kinda hard.

Alot of Those service station pumps that deal the short bursts have a buttun on the stand that says something like "press for flat tyre only" if you press this it will give one long big burst of continuess air.

on the advice of a mate I used a CO2 cartridge on it and it worked a treat, a little indulgent but very quick and easy. It didn't have enough pressure to pop the bead but it sealed and then the track pump did the rest. Thanks all for your help

cheers
