Hi guys,
I know is a big shot, but any chances for an earlier start, 8- 8:30??

BigJosh's picture

Is it at all possible to change it to saturday? if no thats okay, its just that i won't be able to make it.

Ivo's picture

Never ridden red hill, it'll be me + 1. The earlier the better... Looking forward to it.

Jonathan's picture

I can push it up an hour, don't mind an early start but ill have to get back to the day change. Ill have to double check that closer to the time.

Does anyone no there way around red hill. From the general consensus no one really does. Its probably not a bad idea having someone who knows there way around hahaha.

Cheers, looking very forward to thing one!

I am not sure if I can make it at the minute but will know closer to the 18th.

I have ridden redhill 100s of times and if I can make it would be happy to show you around.
Its a big place with lots of tracks. Unless you know where your going you wont see the good stuff.

Most of it can be quite techy. The is some great single trail, some all mountain tracks and alot of badly erroded tracks.

ScottM's picture

I'd much prefer Saturday as well. If you're keen, we can do Saturday morning instead/as well.

Ivo's picture

Wish i could ride on Saturdays but i work every Sat.
If it stays sunday then i'll still be up for it.

Nerf Herder's picture

should be good for early Sunday

jonob's picture

This is turning into a bit of an event. now all we need is someone to show us around.

I'd recommend starting at Cromer Road at the firetrail. Take the first left after the gate before the main firetrail starts going down.

This skips out some long boring, muddy firetrail when starting from Lady Penryn and avoids the long climb back to the car. There are still some badly eroded bits but gives levelish access to single track and have option of dropzone on way home with short Hikeabike up to contour level where car is.

Can build a nice technical 2hr 10km loop. Mix of drops, flowing descent, short climbs, level techy stuff. Great playground once Manly Dam gets too short or easy. There are also plenty of natural B and C lines and places to session to build skills. Good for AM setup but enough options to keep everyone riding most of the time. Currently ride most of my old lines on hard tail with 160mm fork, most stuff is no bigger than 3-4' drop offs with natural B lines.

We have been doing ground work to turn this into a formal trail network. Great potential here and sad to see all the avoidable erosion that just needed basic drainage and design input.

obmal's picture

typical.. post a red hill ride and then it rains! Sad

Jonathan's picture

Just as well i got a ride in yesterday. Hmmm, rains no good, unless it really hot for the next week i think we might have to postpone the ride.

Whippet1's picture

Haven't ridden for a while so keen to see some new ways around...see you there

BigJosh's picture

How does saturday 9:30am sound?

Nerf Herder's picture

Slight change for me sorry ... I can't make Sunday now ... due to Yellowmundee plant id event ... but can make Saturday.

I can guide and have a good sized XC/trail loop with lots of techy goodness ... I normally start at Lady Penrthyn.

VTSS350 ... also knows the place very well so some options for you if I can't make it.

If you can lock in the day by Wednesday I can ask the Minister of fun if I can get a leave of absence.

BigJosh's picture

Saturday 9:30 at Lady Penrhyn drive works fine for me if the Nerf Herder is available? I've only doen Red Hill once so i'm looking forward to it Smiling

Jonathan's picture

Ill let you guys no soon if i can change it to saturday. Just need to clear up a few things.

Chances are looking good thou.

Hope to see you all there and meet a few new faces.

Cheers, Jono.

Jonathan's picture

IF we do saturday, what time is good for everyone?

p2tx8's picture

Same at 8am

Nerf Herder's picture

8am is good with me

Ivo's picture

Anyone looking at riding red hill sunday if this gets changed to sat?

ScottM's picture

This is getting confusing...

I've created a second ride for Saturday for those who want to change days. I'll endeavor to do both days though!

Jonathan's picture

Ok. I will leave this as sunday, the other ride will be saturday. As long as there is someone who can play tour guide i will be happy. Attend which ever suits you best.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks

Ivo's picture

Is red hill more AM or XC? No need to bring the full face?

Jonathan's picture

From my understanding its more AM

VTSS350's picture

Redhill is a mostly AM track

Matt P's picture

but a full face would probably be overkill.
Depends entirely on your riding level as to whether you would bring it.

Ivo's picture

ok, thanks mate.

ScottM's picture

I've removed myself from this ride as I can't guarantee I'll be able to ride on Sunday morning anymore. I'll still try to show up, but I'm not a definite.

Jonathan's picture

Ok so anyone on the ride at the moment no there way around...??

And wheres the best place to meet?

Cheers

Ivo's picture

I've never been before. So wouldnt have a clue...
If no one knows the way around, could just go in and get lost?

CROMERBOY's picture

This is a bit of single track and the RIM ride - nothing too techy in there.

pikey's picture

Me and my mate Jeff are joining your Sunday ride.
Jeff knows Red Hill like I know the freckles on my #$%@ Eye-wink

See you at 8:00

Pikey

jonob's picture

lucky this ride is on both days of the weekend. the girlfriend just revoked my leave pass for saturday.

p2tx8's picture

Sorry guys, but today's ride was little bit longer than I expected (actually my wife)

Jonathan's picture

Really sorry to do this but i cant make it Sad I tried my hardest to make everything work out for this morning but i just couldn't, whole lotta small things that are preventing me.

Hopefully you guys have a great ride and i will catch you guys on the next one.

Sorry again,

Jono.

Ivo's picture

jonob's picture

Thanks for the ride. I learnt heaps. I'll need to go back to have a bit of a practice. Legs are a bit sore.
