Going in the dust to dawn ride at Jarradahal, for the first time. Was just wondering what lights are recommended for this event.

Thanks

Ay-Up Lights are one of the sponsors for the events

I would guess most competitors would be rocking these in some form.
The v4 Adventure kit would be the ones to get. They are pricey but worth the coin.

I run a set of these and use them for everything on and off the bike.

+1 for Ayups. Don't skimp, buy the V4s. It makes a huge difference to have a set on the bars and the helmet.

K-Lites

The guy is a genius, well may be stretching it but they are awesome bits of gear.

This this would be my current recommendation of choice:

+1 K-lites

The combo package is great but you really only need the helmet mount.
Gives a wider spread then any other lights I've tried

Got this one for my helmet and the ufo set for my handlebars and this one on it's lower setting lasted the whole of the Heritage trail plenty of light (3hours) and then I put them on the next day to check out battery life. Turned on at 8.30am and they were still going at later that afternoon/evening and when it finally got to the red setting that lasted at least an hour (this was on it's lower setting) High is 1000 lumen and really the low which is 30% was plenty high enough and when I did Kalamunda Circuit at night.

Plus you get a second battery and extension cord, bike and helment mounts.

I'm happy and no probs to date

Just bought a set of the V4 Ayups. Super bright. Haven't done a ride with them yet, but walked around the street with them the other night and lighting up signs and uncut individual blades grass on my neighbors bowling green of a front lawn from 40m away. Went the narrow beam for the helmet and the intermediate for the bike.

I have AYUP Twins on my bars and a NightLight on my helmet. The AYUPS are incredibly well built, light weight and you can see the quality from the lights to the box you keep em in and esp mounts.
The Nightlights are bright, cheaper and nothing wrong with em so far but no where near the quality of the AYUPS - get em cheap at www.cellbikes.com.au

I started with the Nightlight as I wanted to give riding at night a go without spending a bomb - then you realise you need two lights to travel at decent pace so I went for quality next. All in all its a lot of fun and allows you to ride mid week after work.

My set up allows daytime speeds at night which is what you want.

Magicshine MJ-872 for handlebar and 868 or 808E for helmet for less than $250 delivered in a couple of days according to them. Checked out their Facebook page, Magicshine LED Bike & Scuba Lights with video and still beamshots. Nice.

... find 'em cheaper on deal extreme.

Magic shines suck, well the batteries do.
I have a Pygmy max for my head & a couple of Magic shine lamps running off of aftermarket batteries on the bars.
For most events Ay Ups are enough & are also built well and reliable but could be a little brighter especially when compared to some of the newer designs such as Lumicycles.

Super bright, very cheap and delivers within a few days. Based in the ACT.
This is the one I just bought

I think they are a Magicshine? but with different batteries.
