Duration:
2 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Manly Dam
Details:

On Saturday morning I'll be taking a novice mate round the Dam. He's been there before, but because this isn't likely to be very speedy and he's pretty new at this I'm throwing it out there for others to join.

If you've been lurking here wanting to say hello but have been a bit put off by all the high speed, long distance action then be put off no more - this is for you! Laughing out loud

Please 'star' this post if you intend to come, and check the status on Friday night/Saturday morning - particularly if the weather is looking iffy. If my mate pikes then it's quiet likely I'll still go, but the ride will be a tad quicker Eye-wink

Hey Rob

Myself (and 4 friends) have been lurking a bit but we have hang-overs planned for this Saturday morning.

Sunday mornings normally better as one dude plays cricket Saturdays.

There are 5 of us, all bought lower-end entry level bikes within last 10 months. I'm currently running at a rate of having 1 friend buy a bike every 2 months. I dragged them into this stuff and we all love it. http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/nmag/rides/bi...

Our common rides times have been: Late Friday arvos (4:00pm when we can sneak out from work heh), Saturday and Sunday Mornings (9:00am), & Late Sunday arvo (4:00pm).

Our rides (novice trails) so far been: Lane Cove, Bobbin Head, Perimeter Track, Long Track, Manly Dam, & Terry Hills loop (Duck Holes and Centre) where I met some dude called Nic with giant calves. You can blame Nic for me finding Nobmob.

We are learning heaps of stuff from your site. These lights you are all buying seem like the go, why are they not in that magazine review? Some of us will need massive FO lights one day.. when we work out what exactly to order.

Mapping these tracks I find is a biatch, the Edge 305 sounds like the go (i'm going to get one when the Dec price drops - new release).

That Gazza dude has scared me out of moving towards downhill. Hope he gets better soon. I search net for MTB injuries. Stats on net say 20 times more likely to go to hospital from riding downhill. I went and got troy lee skin & knee stuff after checking all the nobmob injury photos to shins and legs. Good learnings. XC injuries might suit over 30's better than DH injuries.

We will meet one day. I have ordered a jersey (to be loose fit of course!). I will keep eye out for more novice rides on MTB.

The google earth tracks resource is unreal! Long post... but it is a testament to your site and MTB.

your comment about Gazza did make me laugh - if you saw him doing downhill then you would want to try it - hes such a balanced rider...well, maybe not right now..but usually!!!
come out with us one day - and bring your merry men along!
or post a ride... Smiling

Created a Manly event for Sunday. Hey if it's washed out from possible Friday rain, come Sunday peoples!

Up for a cruisy ride on Saturday before our big Oaks ride on Sunday.

Rob, maybe you can show me how to get up those damn rock steps after the golf course!

Hi Rob,

I've recently moved to OZ and am dying to get out and have a pedal! The problem is that I have not turned a pedal in anger for about 8 months now and needless to say my fitness level is non existent and I'll be on a Kona Stinky! I'm not familiar with the Manly Dam ride (besides from info on NOBMOB) so I'm not sure if I'll be too slow on the climbs?

Buck's picture

climbs are easy and few and far between at Manly.
One is a road climb right at the start when legs are fresh.
And the other is a quick granny gear run. Only for a few hundred metres or so.

Don't worry... my mate is in the same boat. He has an old bike and has only been out on the bike couple time in the last few months from what I can tell. 4-5 people will be a good number so come along.

remember what bike he's on buck. i think youre playing down the other shorter climbs mate.

Thanks Buck & Rob! I'll see you guy's at the meeting point.

Gazza,

It's a 2007 Stinky and has a granny ring. I used to ride XC so are familiar with how to tackle climbs... not that it will help me too much on the Stinky!

I'm up for this, had a ride round Manly dam last weekend, found my bike fitness was lacking after hardly any riding in the last year...where have my legs gone? It was hot last saturday morning so I'm hoping the cooler weather will make it a bit easier!

see you there!

hi,

sorry but can't make Saturday. i have a 13 month old baby girl & time seems to be at a premium at the moment. but i am keen for a future manly dam novice ride.. time permitting....

... next time.

The slight amount of rain we're getting right now should be good (packs down any loose dust). Check back in the morning, but unless something very bad happens we're all on.

Not that it was a big pour last yesterday but was it still relatively dry i.e. not major puddles or muddy sections?

Buck's picture

A few puddles here and there but nothing too bad
