This was a great day out, probably the best of the three events I have done this year, well organised and a great atmosphere.

Started the race hoping to finish under 3hr15 so thought I'd start in the appropriate start time. If I'd know the course and how open it is for the first 10km or so I would have gone in the earlier group as I felt I could have gone harder at the start (some people did suggest this). Reached the transition about 1hr 10 and decided to fill up with water and grab some fruit, had I not done this I would have finished just under 3hrs as per my garmin (2:59).

At the first real singletrack a queue formed behind a woman leading the way so a large group got held up for a while, I passed her as soon as we got off it only to have her pass me again which I decided wasn't right so I passed her again. Struggled around the 40-50km mark, got lazy and followed someone's wheel up the switchback meadow (back was getting sore), made a break after that and picked it up with some clear riding. At your call I went left (didn't want to look soft) but found it ok, guy in front of me stopped and cramped, to be honest squeeled like a big girl.

Back on the open road and the same girl I had passed earlier after the ST came back and passed, we took turns on the front until the hill and she took off. Felt strong on the last few k's but almost lost the front coming down one of the last descents turning right on some gravel. Kicked on looking at my garmin wanting it to stay under 3hrs .

First race on the 29er hardtail and wish I'd pushed it harder as the legs are fine, the back will recover and shouldn't be an issue as it's only sore through moving a server at work. Took the opportunity to have a massage which hurt more than the race whilst waiting for the full flingers to finish. Looking forward to stepping up to the 100k next year.

I'll give you the 3 hours on the garmin - just to justify the new bike purchase to the mrs Eye-wink

Next year we'll have you step up to the 100 !

to myself too, was a really good ride for a 29er...I think you should have justified it too Wayne so time to join the club?

Itching to go again today but might have to make do with signing up for the 75km James Williamson enduro.

Hey Gary nice effort.
Its a good way to do it, get the 1/2 under your belt then step up next year

Gary

After doing half fling + willo you have basically done 80% of the course. The rest is fire road - oh yes and half way hill !

You will certainly be ready for the 100 next year.

Well done. I'm trying to get him to commit to the Dirtworks 100 for his first century. Also, once you sign up for the 100, it gives you an excuse for more riding Eye-wink

I take my hat of to anyone completing 100km (109km in this case) and I think seeing you guy's do it so well has just given me that extra kick (this is sounding like a love in). Anyway I've put a calendar entry in Outlook for when entries open for Dirtworks Eye-wink

Who's doing the Willo Enduro?

Don't forget to add the Mont to your calendar as well. I'll be doing my 2012 calendar soon.

Good to hear you enjoyed yourself and are all fired up to go again!

Dirtworks is a good 100 to do. Entries open Dec 1 so be ready! But yes there's also The Willo and The Mont to get you going too.
