On the rivet!

It was the first of four races in the next few months being held at Terrey Hills Bmx track/ equestrian center.
After Doing the Fling on my cyclocross bike I thought, "never again" and looked forward to a proper, short and fast race on a course that better suited the skinny tyres.
The Boys and Girls at Manly Warringah CC have been talking about organizing a few CX races and as a few more of us have caught the bug and got bikes then their plans were put into action.
A great course was quickly designed around the perfect terrain of the equestrian center with hopovers already in place( some low horse jumps ) and a good mixture of grass, bitumen, sand and gravel.
If you've seen any winter clips of CX in Europe you'll notice that mud plays a big part of racing and thanks to a gutter in the middle of the bmx track( not part of the track) and all the rain we've had, we even ended up with a big sticky mud pit!
Two races were planned. An open race that anyone could enter on any bike, be it Mtb or CX.
Then a CX only race after that.
It was good to see a few Mtb'ers turn up and have a go, and I think they had a blast? ( although it hurts like hell whilst racing so I couldn't see any smiles!
The CX race started and we were off and it was on!
I got into about 6th place( out of a field of around 15 riders?) and soon a race within a race started, two of my riding buddies and myself were jostling for places and riding the race on each others wheels and constantly swapping positions, there was no chance for a rest on the course of around 1.8km as you were either flat out chasing someone or trying to get away and not be be passed.
The three of us became two and we pushed on forward and overtook fourth place, third place was in our sights and about three laps from the end we caught him up and I made a surge but my buddy never followed suit so this gave my the mental strength to push on and hold them off till the end of the race which I finished in third and was really pleased as the two of them had beaten me at the fling and I had a score to settle!
The racing was short, fast and very intense, my garmin had my average heartrate at 98% for 50 minutes!
Now if that's not on the rivet I don't know what is?
I can't wait for the next one in a few weeks time.
As the numbers weren't overwhelming, we're trying to put the word out there to get more people interested in the next races so if you fancy a blast out for 45 mins then come along. Even if you happen to be riding terrey hills, pop across the road and come see what all the fuss is about. It's good fun to watch as well as race.
Sorry if this post is lacking anything but I've just done this from my phone as quick as possible in my lunchtime!
