Hors Category Climb

I wasnt going to post this as a hot lap as it probably wont be that contested well given the distance from Sydney, but if you're looking for an Hors Catégorie climb or happen to be in the area, then this is the closest I've found to Sydney. At 800m vertical climb it falls under Strava's HC class.

It's a dirt road with some corrugations and cattle grates located at barrington tops. I did it on a mountain bike (albeit 20 years old), but it could really be done on a roadie running 25c tyres.

Have fun!

I was wondering who put that segment up the other day whilst doing a segment explore. We have another one a bit closer to Singleton we do on the southern side of the Barringtons, not hores category but there are a couple of 2nd category and a 3rd category in the whole loop. A mate of mine did the loop yesterday, http://app.strava.com/rides/3752474.
Some of the crazier guys ride out from Singleton and include this http://app.strava.com/rides/2591741#.
Heaps of big climbs up her in the valley.

Would beat some of the vanilla point to point races around. For good climbs I always thought you would have to go to the snow's.

When you coming up to ride it refresh? You could bring sammydog along but you would have to hog tie him and put him in the hoot to survive the drive.

A race? You're right, a race would be awesome!

Most crits dont even last that long! And unlike crits, the strongest man would probably win, rather than the one who sucked wheel the most and can pack a punch at the end.

Still not sure if a roadie or mtb bike would be best.

I reckon a race up that climb from moonan brook to the dingo gate then through the state forest on firetrail and ST (if there is any)then down the northern side of the barrington tops and back to moonan brook would be pretty good.

Have you got a full loop that incorporates this ride that we can try.

I don't know my way around this area, but would be good to go for an explore.

wouldn't a CX bike be fastest up there?

From Moonan Brook to Dingo Gate/Pole Blue then across to Carey's Peak and down the Corker or across to Gloster Tops then down.
You do need to shuttle this or incorporate it into a bigger multi day ride.

I've done both and can highly recomend. Definately MTB once you get of the Tops Road.

They also did a stage of the Westpac Ride up to the gate and back a few years ago.

You got a GPS log of that one Empy?
