Re: This ride meeting:
2007 Highland Fling

Hey guys, firstly I’d like to take my hat off to all those that finished the full Fling, as now I know in first hand how hard it really is (much…. much harder than I ever thought).

Got at the start line at 7:10 and I got a place right in the middle of the pack, feeling very confident besides a lightly sore throat. The first stage (1:40h) went really well and I thought I managed to save some energy riding really easy although after the “first bath” my legs were feeling a little bit strange (maybe the freezing water???). Down we go to the forest and everything went well till km 45 when I started feeling tired (quite strange as I was training harder than this with much more climbing). After km 60, my legs and my mind gave up on me as I could only think about finishing the stage and bailing out because at this point every small uphill felt like hell and cramps started all over the place.

After 3:50h of agony and pain I finished the stage and without thinking straight I handed over the chip to one of the volunteers even before I got to the transition area (quite stupid, I know). After 15 minutes of rest I felt ok again, but the bike was on the sag wagon and my mind was in a hot bath and some bed time. I think I’ll regret this till next 100k’s.
See you all on Dirtworks!!!

Leo.
