I was always looking forward to this race. The Dirtworks/Convict was my first enduro and is also is my favorite. And great to line up with lots of other keen mobbers....even when the form is getting pretty hot !

Arrived at the start with no time to spare but that was soon forgotten once underway with the tight pack down the road to Wrights Ck. Settled into a rhythm and felt good once I had ditched the glasses so I could see where I was going. The big climb was soon past as was the first drink station, and felt the pace was steady but at the same time was difficult to gauge if time was good. I stupidly dropped the bike on the north section of GNR when I didnt put the front wheel down properly but brushed off quickly and was away again. Unfortunately I had bent the rear derailleur so lost a few gears and found that I was doing it tough on the HT and not keeping pace compared to other riders on the rougher sections.

Split time at 10 Mile Hollow was ahead of target so all good I thought. Quick stop for hydration and away again but still found I was losing ground on the rougher sections with drivetrain gremlins and really working the HT through the steps and loose rocks along with the inevitable cramps. Quick stop at the canoe bridge and away again for solo effort to Womerah. That climb just never stops ! I finally started to slowly pick up a few places rather than being passed and was wishing for the finish line to come quickly. No one in sight in front or behind for Jacks Track descent and solo effort on the final road section to the finish.

Very satisfied to have cracked the 5 hours which I thought beforehand was best case scenario and really enjoying the riding and the competition at the moment......I hope there is plenty more to come !

Dave, good time mate. Next time you pass me while i am standing on the side of the road trying to fix a mechanical can you stop and help, at least one of us would have had some idea what they were doing!

Well done Dave. I know you were aiming for a great time for this one and you've certainly done that. If you were hanging for the finish line it sounds like you also pushed yourself to your limits which is always a good way to race, especially when the results come!

Great effort for sub 5hrs Dave

I knew you wouldn't be too far behind. You will be hard to keep away at the Husky Smiling
