Alloy jockey wheels

Hi all,

Has anyone tried either of these alloy jockey wheels

The first one claims to have some float which would be good on the top wheel. Any other suggestions for good jockey wheels?

Thanks

It's not clear to me whether the bottom link has ceramic ball races or ceramic bushings.

I'd go with the top link. Or spend $30 and get the BBB set from your LBS.

Ball races are better. Lower friction, less maintenance, less slop, can be cleaned and re-packed. I normally replace the upper ceramic-bushed XT jockey wheel with ballraced ones from BBB. Better shifting and a (just barely!) noticeable improvement in pedalling friction.

I've tried the Token alloy jockey wheels with and without ceramic bearings. On my road bike and on my mountain bikes.

On road bikes they would be acceptable I suppose, but for mountain bikes they are a waste of money.

Positives:

  • They look cool. Not that many people notice jockey wheels.

Negatives:

  • There is no noticeable difference in use - they aren't smoother, quieter, faster, or lighter.
  • And off road they wear out very quickly. As an estimate I'd say about half the useful life of plastic jockey wheels.

I don't use them any more and I recommend that you shouldn't bother.

Ah, I wondered about that. Thanks for confirming. LOL!
