Royal National Park CruiseSubmitted by Rob on Sat, 17/11/2007 - 17:09.
Ride Database Entry: Royal National ParkDistance: 25.67KmVertical Climb: 461mVertical Drop: 461mNice cruise on healthy mix of firetrail and single track, not straying too far from Loftus Oval start. Starting at Loftus oval a short out and back on firetrail to warm up, before hitting single track, from which maybe 30-40% of this ride is made. Head South and loop round before coming back along only a small part of the outbound leg. Complete another loop on the Northern section and remember to save some energy for the climb out of temptation creek on the way back to the start. |
RNP Erosion
Hey Rob,
Last time i was at RNP (maybe 6-12 months ago...) a small section of this course was massively eroded (the bit that starts just after you leave riding parallel to the highway i.e. the section that you rode in both directions).
There were even signs instructing riders to walk thru this area. I was just wondering whether the National Parks had fixed any of this??
cheers,
Lance
'fixed'
I'm not sure, but think you are talking about the section that used to be a bit technical, and yes, had a sign at one end but not the other. Word is that NPWS simply drove through there with a bulldozer and graded the lot, turning a technical but eroded piece of single track into a fire trail.
Locals will know better than I though - haven't been down there for a long time.
Before we all go crazy at this though, it's obvious there has been a lot of maintenance on the sniggle close to the oval - and they remain very nice single tracks. So although some works done have been done that might not be to everyone's liking, overall it's probably for the greater good.
erosion
not sure where you mean Lance, we been riding this pretty steadily for a few years.
A lot of track work done on single track across the railway from the Oval, and the piece we rode in both directions that starts at the road and finishes up at the 5 Ways (my name anyways!!) near the railway line at Engadine, was graded probably 2 years ago at least - now nice concrete water bars in some areas. Not quite single track but it was unrideable (almost)and not doing anybody any favours before.
The other bit you might be referring to is where the track goes past the jump hill and the old house - that has also been graded sometime ago down to the highway and is smooth fast firetrail with some nice waterbars.
there is another section that runs around the oval though the trees that is still quite eroded - but its also pretty overgrown.
I'm keen to find some new trails down there - anybody expand the trail network for us?
