Amber/Some Issues

Took a look today -- Almost a red. It's ridable, but barely...some trails are dry (Snakes, Easy out) but most are still holding water or just plain mucky.

If you ride, bring a spare set of clothes and be prepared to wash down you and your bike afterwards.

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.
Please do not post comments with such information - post a new update with the link above.

With more rain on the way it will be red in no time....dont fancy doing a mud run

wouldn't the need for a spare set of clothes warrant a red????/ we need a classification system

I haven't been into the trails (because I reckon they'll be wet) but I've been on the Fernleigh and run in the area, my local dirt access track and the section of the great north walk that I run were suitably wet yesterday with water flowing down the great north walk itself. Can't imagine that the trails would be in any state to hold up to bike traffic, especially the usual parts that suffer in the wet.
With a bit more rain on Saturday but a reasonably dry outlook beyond that I'd say we're best to hold off and hope it dries out a bit more.

Honestly, the purpose built tracks were pretty darn good. The Shaft and Kenny's were wet, but the rest of the loop was pretty good. Most of the mud, water and goo is on the fire tracks connecting the bits of single track.

Dunno what colour you call that -- some bits are green others are red, I picked something in the middle and hope people will use their judgement and ride responsibly.

For the sake of consistancy that sort of condition is generally seen as red - good hints that its red, is slippery on the downhill at shaft with tyres leaving a track all the way down, and climb out of the creek at the bottom gives spinning wheels. the biggest difficulty is when you go out and pretty much no-one else has been out before you so there are hardly any tracks showing damage, in which case you have to look back.

Not everybodys idea of dont ride is the same obviously, personally I rate it at what i think Sammydog or mick would, not what I would.

I was happy with the rating as the reasons were also posted.
A red because it is raining is not very helpful. The amber rating with observations of track conditions was more helpful as I'm quite capable of making up my own mind if to ride or not if given enough information.
I took a walk along double barrel and back along the Gun Club Rd this arvo. Found it slippery and very wet but the track holding up very well. The road is also very wet with a bit of surface water in some of the hollows. Didn't go any further as it is too wet and boggy for my liking.
Great for those who like it slippery and wet (and at times who doesn't) but for any one else, don't bother.

I've said this before, I'd like trail status updates to have a bit more detail on what people ride. This actually enables people to know the conditions of individual trails.

Ideally people would list individual trails and give a quick rundown. Then at least you know specifically which trails to avoid.

The danger with the orange is people just see orange and ride without much detailed report on where to not go.

I've resigned myself to the fact that there is not the resources to keep on top of maintenance of the trails and that after rain, if there is a sunny weekend the place is going to cop a flogging. People have different thresholds for when they think is and isn't good to ride. I personally avoid the place when its wet. I may ride somewhere else (jesmond/whitebridge/hillsborough), but given the years it took to get Glenrock up and running, personally I can't ride it. At the same time I can't and won't tell people when to or not to.

All I can ask is that when posting a status, try and make it as detailed as possible, so even if there is argument on the actual colour chosen, there is enough detail for people to make an informed choice on whether to ride or not.

When I see a description that says "Took a look today -- Almost a red. It's ridable, but barely...some trails are dry (Snakes, Easy out) but most are still holding water or just plain mucky.", I would focus on the most trails are holding water or just plain much and call it a red in my own mind.
