What makes a stem a "Road Bike" stem?

I ask because I have been looking for a specific stem for several months and have finally found one that matches the length, size, rise and most importantly colour that I have been searching for but it is a "road" stem.

It's cnc al with a 4 bolt face plate and only 80mm long, and 145gm for a 110mm version, is there a reason I shouldn't use it on an MTB?

If it's for XC stuff and you.'re not hucking off 3-foot drops to flat or other all-mountain craziness i don't see why it would not be ok. Does the steerer diameter match up?

Model details?

It is probably lighter in construction than a mtb stem... your call.

sometimes the stem clamp is shorter than the chunky mtb stem clamps. Im talking about the clamp bit than clamps the stem to the top of the fork. It will fit fine, but u may need an extra spacer. also, make sure u get the correct diameter for your handle bars. Some mtb handle bars are thicker and some r same as road bike or flat bar bike. I worked this out the hard way.
