This was my 3rd attempt at the half fling and I loved the whole weekend and race.
The atmosphere camping and in bundanoon was great as usual and I'll be back for sure.
The race itself was pretty good, with enough left in terms of improvement in my time to set some goals for next year. My first go at the half fling back in 2009 took nearly 4 hours so I've taken 45 minutes of that already. Will have to take my training more seriously next year as the last 15kms were tough and I think most of the 15 minutes I can take off here in future!
Loved racing this on my 29er hard tail. Didn't love a full superman over the handle bars after about 18km in the 4wd tracks. One minute I was riding along nicely, thankfully on the back of a nice train, the next i was picking myself up off the floor feeling rather sheepish! Doh!!
Don't think my nutrition was the cause of my legs just going towards the end. I'm beginning to think now that cramps (for me anyway) are 80% fitness and 20% nutrition. I'll certainly be working on core body strength too as once my back starts to stiffen up then that just works its way into the hamstrings and before I know it, bang!
Loved reading all the other blogs, have certainly got loads of work to do in order to get my times up to scratch with the rest of the nobmobbers!!

Great effort and in the last 10 kays I promised myself never again. But bet we are all there next year....fools. Good work and agree re cramps - every blog so far has mentioned them so no one is immune.

Think you are in the same boat as me - trying to get under 3. I had the average speed up on the Garmin and desperately pushed to keep above 20, I am not sure if this was a good thing since it plays with the head a bit.

About the cramps, I just think its the intensity, it is such a bloody hard race. Next year I will put some miles in on fire trails because its something I never do (always singletrack or road) and with the fling its all about firetrails - nasty climbs and fast cornering on loose surfaces.
