Manly Dam update for 26 Nov

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

I did a spin around at lunchtime. The track remains clean and dry. Therefore still "Green/Open".

It seems the pile of crushed sandstone above the 19th Hole has grown. I do wonder where this crushed sandstone can be going that doesn't (a) dumb down the track and (b) get washed away next time it rains - but I am just a worrier so I won't mention it Eye-wink

No wildlife to report at lunchtime - just a couple of school kids walking their bikes (they said they were tired!).

The track itself now has a quite distinct line which it seems every rider and their dog must using. In several places this isn't the best line. Does no one think about these things? Are most Manly Dam users sheep?

Do you have more information?

We need somewhere to hold a BBQ on the Allambie side, after all. Can't let the Seaforth side have one and we miss out, that just wouldn't be fair. Thinking maybe at 19th Hole, whaddaya reckon? Eye-wink

Being serious for a moment, the plan is to address drainage issues and try to divert some of the water flow off the single track coming off the fire trail (Not sure how successful we'll be without a wholesale diversion of the trail from a fall line trail into a contour trail with switchbacks, but we'll have a go.)

Other issues are the uneven landing area below the first log drop, the one that has the root formations sticking up on the right hand side, and the boards and logs that run at an angle to the direction of travel, and the boards and logs that sit on corner apexes.

There's much more to do than can be accomplished in a single day so we'll address the drainage issues first, as they're fundamental to making the other changes work.
