I'm up Awaba way in a month or so and wanted to find some overnight accommodation near the trail so I can get an early start. Does anyone have a recommendation .. I'm struggling to find any great info on the Caravan Park whats it like?

Re the trail .. I gather the XC loop is the main feature .. is there anything else that shouldn't be missed?

Cheers Aaron

I once had some work over a weekend in the Hunter Valley. I stayed in Cessnock and took my bike so I could ride Awaba while I was up there. It was only about 20 mins/half and hour away.

... I was staying at Pokolbin last year and put Mt Faulk Rd into the GPS to get over to Awaba for a ride. It took me the back way over the Watagans. Fortunately I was in a Prado and I like back roads and fire trails...... Smiling Was still under an hour though.

I've stayed at the hotel in Toronto before, not much chop but it was a bed. Thats about a 20-30min drive to Awaba. Glenrock is definetly worth a visit. Thats about a 30min drive east.

You really need someone down around the lake to chime in.

My first thought for somewhere nice would be Warners Bay. No idea what Toronto is actually like but it cops plenty of bogan westie jokes.

Otherwise I'm sure you'll find something along the western side of the lake.

Awaba isn't really near much so you might be better to look for somewhere around the lake and drive 15-20 min.

do the words "trailer trash" bring up bad images?-maybe try Morriset or down at Dora Creek?

Try Catherine Hill Bay. There are plenty of places to rent online. The beach is magnificent and perfect for a cooling-off dip after a ride. Great for surfing or a long walk too. It's 35mins to Awaba or Glenrock or 25mins to Ourimbah from there. The pub is a classic one with good food and ales on tap. It's an old mining town - the mine has long since gone.

If you have time check out the downhill track, especially the lovely rock garden Smiling

There is some accommodation in Morisset, such as at the pub. Very little though. There are some Bed & Breakfasts around the place. This would be the closest along with Toronto.

Stay clear of Freeman's Waterhole. This place is only good for petrol, pies, & a coke.

If you do stay in Toronto, it's a little closer to Glenrock. If you have time - do both! Awaba is great fun, and so is Glenrock.

The Awaba XC loop has 3 loops. Yellow is the shortest. Blue is an extension of the Yellow, & Red is an extension of the Blue. Just follow the Red arrows for the full track.

I can really recommend the Wangi Caravan Park for accommodation and proximity to Awaba. Here's a link to the park- http://www.lakemacholidayparks.com.au/wangi

I stayed there in November for the final round of the Singletrack Mind series. It took me 25 minutes to drive to the trails. The caravan park is right on the lake with great facilities and a mixture of powered/unpowered sites as well as cabins. I haven't stayed in the cabins, but they look good :)There's some nice bush walks from the caravan park around the lake foreshore in case you're not worn out after a few laps at Awaba!

Here's a link to a Google map with directions from the caravan park to the trails at Awaba- https://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

As someone else posted, you've got the three options for loops at Awaba with the red loop being the longest with options to cut it short by following the yellow or blue loops. You wont be disappointed! Have fun.

Wow thanks everyone .. some great feedback there. The Freemans Waterhole CVP had me worried based on the lack of online info .. and I think Ive got the info I needed here .. HA!!

Really appreciate all the tips .. will keep an eye on any further responses.
