Kid friendly trails .... ?

Hey Guys

I'm looking for some advice for trails which are ' kid ' friendly.

I have 2 boys ( 7 and 12 ) and the 7 year old has just graduated from the Narrabeen Lake loop to Perimeter and Long up at Terrey Hills.

It's been great because it means all 4 of us are going out riding together. Watching the kids riding is just fabulous fun....

We're planning a couple of trips away and I was hoping for some advice. We are considering going to Bundanoon / Wingello for a few days and later in the year are considering a trip to Forrest in Victoria.

I've ridden the Full Fling at Bundanoon a few times but i've never really considered what it would be like for kids to ride. Does anyone have recommendations of good family friendly trails down there?

I've never been to Forrest but I know it has a great reputation for mountain biking. Likewise.... any info on family friendly trails there would be appreciated.

Thanks

CB

After just coming back from Jindabyne for the Christmas holidays I can thoroughly recommend it as an all purpose MTB destination.

There is enough 'easier' stuff for the kids around the lake, lake crackenback resort, thredbo valley trails and Bungarra, but also something for yourself when the kids get tired and need a break.

The other place I would recommend is Bright Victoria. There are plenty of trails either side of the river that are kid friendly but exciting enough to keep you interested. They are accessible right from the centre of town. Bright has it all - brewery, great food and singletrack galore.

Regarding Wingello, the single track is probably doable by the 12 yr old, but you would have to divert around the climbs. There is always the firetrails of course, but I find my kids get bored on the firetrails pretty quickly.

The fire trails around Royal National Park Loftus/Engadine Area are kid friendly I think, seen a few young families there.
Some singletrack options too.

I realise you're asking about down south for now, but the green loop at the new OMV trail is definitely kid friendly.

I've ridden Manly Dam with my 9 yo a few times takes about 2 hours and he walks down a few drops and up a few climbs but not too bad. I've even done a short section with my 6 yo on his 20 inch Giant too which worked ok, just need someone to pick you up somewhere. You could ride the Golf course single track from Seaforth Bowling club and ride back along the Parkway, only about 20 min though. I'm looking forward to taking the whole family to OMV when it opens again.

I'd suggest if he's walking the drops at Manly Dam, you may be putting him in over his head at OMV on the Blue loop.

Give it a try at a quieter time of day when the XC whippets on their 29ers aren't going to be queuing up behind and see how he goes, but there's a lot of descending and climbing and not much passing opportunity. The climbing is tricky fun, with some tight switchbacks, and the blue descent is a great flowy stupid-grin-inducing piece of work, but it does require a certain minimum skill level.

There is a green loop, but it's fairly short.

but when they hit the firetrail on the way back up keep riding to the top might be better for them then go again , there was a youngster there a few weeks back his dad said he rode it all on a 20 inch mtb , not sure about the part on the way back tho .
