After entering this event last year it was always going to get me back again. And what a stellar day it was on the Wingello trails with conditions about as good as it gets. The single track grip was awsome, the fire roads were mostly at a good tempo and plenty of good spirits shared by all the riders.

The race pace for the first lap was solid but not crazy. Maybe it was being familiar with the track at Wingello after the lung busting effort a couple of weeks back for the Ginja Ninja. Anyhow, there was always plenty happening with catching the Open field ahead and the sprinters from the groups behind coming up. The traffic thinned out some more into lap 2 and I had no idea what position I was in but thought had to be comfortably top 10. I seemed to have lost contact with the riders ahead of me into the 3rd lap and just kept it steady to conserve some energy and try not to invite the cramps. The legs were definitely heavy for the last section and meanwhile I was thinking will there be a need for last big effort to the finish line. In the end there was no jersey I could catch and I had pulled away from the followers up the last rise to the finish just cruised over the line.

Pretty damn pleased with the result and a good start to a month of racing !

Congrats to the organisers for another well run event and a great vibe.

Great ride @doc. I sat on your wheel for a while feeling good. Just needed to be able to do it for the extra 74.5km...
