All right, so how the hell does this thing work? Does this really give you greater braking power, or is this Placebo Power?

Reading various reviews the idea of these was to give a gradual feel to the brakes to prevent sudden application. I believe that they help in stopping as you can apply extra force beyond contact with block to rim. You can see this when you apply the lever as the v brake flexes in.
