Ride Sydney Nth to Avoca - any good tracks on the way

Hi, I need to go to Avoca from near Manly Dam this Friday or Sat. I was thinking of riding up.

Opt 1 is via Bobbin Head & the Old Pacific Highway. Anyone know of some good tracks on the way to make it a bit more interesting - nothing too technical given I'll be doing about 100km.

Opt 2 is via Terrry Hills tracks then out to Palm Beach - Ettalong Ferry.

Any thoughts or other suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

... but you could include some Red Hill, drop down to Wakehurst Parkway, climb up Eloura Rd / Powderworks Rd, down the Chiltern Track, up to West Head Rd, then down to The Basin and pick up the ferries from there?

Thanks heaps. Some good ideas. Red Hill prob too technical for me but I like the Basin Ferry option. Unfortunately there is a long wait from Basin ferry to PB before PB to Wagstaffe/Ettalong.
I'm now thinking in and out of Cascades from Belrose. Perimeter, duck holes or centre then road to PB. Might have to scale it back and miss Cascades but will keep whiteboarding it!
Cheers

... you can get the 11.20 am ferry from The Basin to PB at 11.45 and then the 12.00 ferry to Ettalong. Not sure what time it gets to Ettalong though.

Road from McCarrs Ck to PB would be a bit of a slog.

That's gold. Any view on what is a better ride - down to the Basin or to Mackerel (I can't see either on this site)?
Looks like Cascades, Terry Hills, Centre Track or Duck Holes and then out to the Basin or Mackerel. A couple of short ferry trips and 20km at the other end from Wagastaff to Avoca.
Cheers.

If you got the ferry to Patonga you can ride up the top and enjoy the downhill to Pearl Beach then around the headland to Umina, Empire Bay then Avoca

Thanks but Patonga/Pearl prob too hilly and the Ferry to Wagstaffe is prob a better bet.
Does anyone know if you can ride down to Mackerel or Basin from the West Head rd?
Cheers

You can definitely ride down to the Basin as its fire road all the way down. The Rangers drive up/down it to manage the camping area there.
There is no vehicle access to Mackerel Beach from West Head Rd, though. There is a trail but would be quite sketchy on a MTB as it narrows down to a steep walking track with rough steps that passes across several private properties & then spits you out on the south end of the beach.
