G'day

Wanting to get into some fire trail and single track for the first time (I've only done about 20Kms of trail in the Nasho and now thinking about doing Oaks), and hoping to get some pointers as to what tyres I should get for my Giant Roam 1 hybrid (bought it intending to do mainly urban stuff and a small amount of trails). It's currently running stock Giant P-RX2 700x40 tyres (and I replaced the rear wheel with a hand-build Mavic 319 because I got sick of replacing broken spokes - I'm 110Kg, so maybe that has something to do with it).

I think my starting riding style is going to be more of a cautious, get experience up on different surfaces (and not break anything and have to walk 20Km home) kind of ride.

Qman, I'd go a Maxxis Ardent 29 x 2.25 front and rear with the Exo sidewall protection. They're a nice grippy tyre that rolls well and is good and strong. I hover around the 88-90kg mark and have had no problems with them.

I run a Maxxis Ardent on the front also, they have great cornering grip and good rolling resistance on the hard pack.

2.25 bit be a bit wide for the frame clearance the skinner Crossmark would be a good option for the oaks and similar while still rolling ok on road and wearing a lot better than the ardents
