Bikes stolen... in Manly :-(

I signed up on here out of desperation to hopefully find our stolen bikes. Sad

On Sunday July 28, 2013 all three of our bikes were stolen from Ashburner Street in Manly. I have reported it to the police, and given them the serial number of the Norco MTB, as it's the only one I had, so maybe it'll turn up locally. But if the thief knows anything about bikes, it won't be ridden around here... Also checked with my insurance company, and of course they're useless, as most insurance companies are. I'm also scouring eBay and Gumtree daily, and will be putting up posters around the Northern Beaches.

The bikes are a Norco Fluid LT1. Medium size frame, colour is Copper/Brown, White forks, and metallic Orange spokes:

A Norco Ares BMX. Colour is green, with white skyway wheels, along with other white bits:

And, a Scott Contessa. It's a small women's size frame, with a White frame, with Gold details, black spokes. The photo isn't great, apologies:

These are all very distinct bikes, in fact I'm pretty confident that the Norco Fluid is the only one in Sydney (maybe even Australia), and the same goes for the BMX, as I put that together myself. If anyone sees any of these bikes around, please PM me as soon as possible. Also, I created a Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/653914381287963/ Please spread the word if you can...

Manly police are pretty good. There is a younger guy there who is very into his bikes and likes to hunt for stolen bikes (esp. decent bikes rather than the repco ones which normally get pinched from the Corso!)

They found my two bikes within a couple of weeks and got them back to me. Fingers crossed for you and good luck.

Ps - most likely spot for them is pawn shops - all shops have to register second hand bikes on a database for 14 days before they can be sold, the police can access this database and search for your bikes.

Yeah, I spoke to a guy in the station, and he said he actually as refrained from buying a decent bike as he knows it will most likely get stolen. You'd think that a nice suburb such as Manly wouldn't have this sort of problem.

I managed to retrieve the BMX (cheeky f***ers left it round the back of an apartment block, 100 meters down the street), but the Norco and the Scott are still missing. Still really cut up about this, and not giving up.

Asking what the issue was with the insurance company?

I've found they generally seem to hate custom builds. I've found it easier to explain that everything wear's out and gets replaced with better parts...

I pay a decent premium each year with AAMI to cover them and curious about any experiences.
