Folks,

Out here looking to buy a bike and the topic of brakes came up.

Question: How popular are tektro draco brakes? and can I get them serviced and get pads in Perth?

Opinions?

Thanks

Yarg

I had them for a couple of months on a specialized camber before I sold the bike. They actually worked pretty well, not quite as well as shimano xt s , but very serviceable. They seem to be a straight knock off of shimano 465s to me - same pads, mineral oil, same bleed procedure etc

On a hardtail 26er I used for about a month on a med-low specced xc basher on a recent trip overseas, they were pretty good actually- but I had low expectations.

I rode quite hilly single track trails (1200m climbing over a 32km ride) and only once could I smell them burning after a particularly steep yet technical downhill. Didn't notice any brake fade. The were setup inside the shifters- one finger braking without issue.

No idea how they would survive if ridden the same way in a long term capacity... In my experience, bottom spec I would shoot for would be SLX.

Have Dracos on a 2012 Haro Flightline Trail 29 - they are good. Reasonably powerful (only have 160mm on front and can stand the bike on the front wheel with fair bit of two finger lever pressure), fairly progressive, and have not needed to replace pads or do any maintenance (other than caliper alignment - no bleeding)in 9 months / 1500km.
I have just received a 180mm disc (and spacer mount), which suits the same caliper as the 160mm as I wanted a bit more bite on the front and balance front to rear. Will fit it over the weekend and see how it goes.
If anyone wants a 180mm disc (TR180-7) let me know as I had to buy a pair but only need the 180mm on the front.
