Was looking for something a bit different from my ride this weekend, had never given Bairne track a go, dismissing it as an absolute beginner track. Well I was wrong, whilst it is mainly easy flat firetrail there are pinch climb sections, especially on the return leg, that if you don't pick your line well, you'll be forced to put your foot down.

Did both the soldiers's point and Portugese legs, both are fine but very sandy in places - crossmark tyres at 32 - 35 psi didn't handle the sand very well, fishtailing all over the place. The view from the end of Portugese rivals that from end of west head i reckon - awe inspiring. Plenty of wallabies about, though not the kamikaze variety that seems to have infiltrated duck holes lately Eye-wink

Also did Topham trail, not exactly sure it's fully ok for MTB's though the sign at the trailhead didn't explicitly say push bikes were not allowed. Anyway this is also an interesting trail - a few sections are perfect for practising semi technical rock climbing skills - multiple rock ledges up to 40cms high to lift the front wheel up and over.
