MacGyver project - Jekyll remote rear lockout

I'd like to fit a remote lockout for the rear shock on my Jekyll. The shock's down quite low and hard to reach while riding.

Any ideas on how I could MacGyver a bar-mounted lockout lever for a Fox Float RL?

The ones I've seen as aftermarket kits don't fit the because of the unusual trunion shock attachment system used on the Jekyll. Ideally I'd like to be able to use all three lever positions - open, locked, and in-between.

Your thoughts are most welcome!

My Jekyll actually had a remote rear lockout as standard. Sold it a while back or you could have taken a look.

There was a custom bracket thing on the shock, which held the cable outer allowing the inner to shift a tiny rounded pivot (where you have a manual switch no doubt). It was all rather squeezed in the frame there so you'll have to be good to get something DIY to fit.

It was nice to have lockout on the bars, but am managing just fine now it's below (having changed to a Rush) so maybe this is a nice plan but one not worth worrying about?

Thanks, Rob. I have some pictures of the factory unit from some manuals I downloaded from the C'dale archive, although they don't give much clue as to how it's fitted to the shock.

On the subject of C'dales I'm a bit disppointed that they seem to have discontinued use of the Lefty in the '08 range for anything over 4" travel and have gone with Fox forks instead.

Any other ideas on fitting a remote lockout?

Don't worry, the lefty lives. It's coming back in '09 with Fox/SRAM outsourced manufacture. You saw this, right:

G'day Hawkeye,
You might want to check out e-bay as I have seen a few oem lock out kits for sale there, also ask a your LBS, Cannondale might still stock them.
I have only recently bought my Jekyll second hand as my bike got pinched and love it, don't know why they stop maiking them.

I love mine too, especially now that I got rid of the horrendous creak that turned out to be in the saddle.

Tried the LBS (BA). Their response was to try to sell me a Giant Trance-X 1.

Mfrs change the models every few years to keep the market for new bikes turning over, and us putting with our hard-earned in their pockets in order to stay "current".

The manufacturers did exactly the same thing wtih pro-level nitro R/C race cars, a pastime I've since retired from. Like clockwork, every two years a new car. Only the wheels were compatible with the old one.

hang on to them. Having said that i am looking at a Rush.... Smiling

It is the same with the Super V's, a great frame that was replaced by the Jekyll, and now it is happenning to the Prophet - this is likely to be its last year of manufacture. I notice that some retailers are already starting to discount them.

In terms of remote lock-out i can only suggest ebay or LBS. Some scalpels also came equipped with a remote lock-out for the fox float.
