Parking and Access to East Kowen?

By Volker - Posted on 04 February 2014

Hi, very confused. Where does one park and access East Kowen? I have ridden The Mont 2012 and 2013, so I do have a fair understanding of the available trails, but the information on access and parking outside of events is somehow eluding me.

Could somebody please (please) point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Volker

I think the 'official' area is right in the middle of the forest.

Have added a Kowan Forest Parking 'pin' to the Kowan Forest map.

The actual parking area (maybe not official but where hundreds of people park every weekend) is off the Kings Highway. They have actually recently revamped this area so I think it is the official parking area.
Leave Queanbeyan on the Kings highway toward Bungendore. After around 9-10km turn left onto what used to be the Kings highway (there is a big brown sign that says Kowen Forest). The new road bypasses this section.
If you reach the defence HQ or Bungendore, you've gone too far.
You can ride on the Kowen or Sparrow side from here - best to do both actually. Loops are clearly marked.

Its called sparrow hill road and its the official and best place to park for east kowen and sparrow hill trails.

Check out http://ridecanberra.com.au it has some good maps and an easy explanation of getting to and parking at Sparrow hill to ride East Kowen.

Thanks to All, but NBuhagiar Smiling

The ridecanberra page was part of my confusion, since it sends you to the other end of the forest. Anyway, I guess both work.

yeah I remember seeing on there somewhere that if you want to ride East Kowen to park at the Sparrow hill carpark(might be under the sparrow hill page)used those directions and found the trail, it's all really well marked.
