No suggestions on specific tyres, but re size...

I've just swapped a Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.1 and a kenda slant six 2.1 for some conti race kings 2.2

The schwalbe 2.1 is more like a 2.0 in my view. The kenda 2.1 comes up quite big, more like a 2.2. The conti 2.2's come up small, more like a 2.0 or 2.1.

Kenda definitely seem to come up bigger than conti. At least in the models I've tried

On your bikes & for what you ride I'd recommend Ardent 2.25 EXO's front & rear for the Heckler & Nobby Nic & Racing Ralph 2.25 Snakeskins for the Blur.
I also rate the Trek XR4 2.35 team issue highly as a huge & grippy but reasonably light front but I'm not sure how it'd go on the rear. I tried the XR3 on the rear, it's ok but it's nothing special.
